3 Before we start let´s remember
Simple past we use it to talk about actions that start and finished in the past. For example: I went to the cinema on vacations. We use the verb in its past form. Go  went There are regular and irregular verbs Regular irregular Walk  walked Drink  Drank Listen  listened Buy  Bought Talk  Talked Read  Read

4 Negative and interrogative form
Did you go to the cinema on your vacations? Yes, I did. To make the interrogative form of the simple past we use DID and the base form of the verb. I Didn’t go to the cinema on my vacations. To make the negative form of the simple past we use Didn’t (did not) and the base form of the verb.

5 Some examples Did you play football last week?
No, I didn’t play football, I didn’t practice any sport during my vacations. Did you cook last Sunday? No, I didn’t cook last Sunday, I cleaned the house.

6 Let’s practice Who is she? What did she do? What happened?
Last week, Beth baked a cake for Lilly's birthday party. Lilly wanted a strawberry cake with pink frosting. Beth was happy to bake the cake. First, Beth mixed the ingredients in a big bowl. Next, she poured the cake batter into four round baking pans. She put the pans in the oven. Finally, she baked the cakes for 20 minutes. Then, Beth prepared the pink frosting. After the cakes cooled, Beth stacked them and covered them with frosting. Beth wrote Lilly's name on top with white frosting. She put seven candles in the cake. On Sunday, Beth surprised Lilly with the strawberry cake. Lilly loved her cake! Lilly had many gifts for her birthday. But Lilly said her cake was the best gift of them all!

7 Answer the following questions. Use the Simple Past tense
1. What kind of cake did Lilly want for her birthday? Who baked the cake? 2. What did Beth do first? How long did she bake the cakes? 3. What did Beth do on Sunday? How did Lilly feel about her cake?

8 Rewrite the following sentences as negative sentences, yes/no questions and WH-questions (using the underlined word or phrase) Examples for the sentence “Amanda washed the dishes.” Negative: Amanda did not wash the dishes. Yes/No Question: Did Amanda wash the dishes? WH-Question: Who washed the dishes? Beth mixed the ingredients in a big bowl.
