6 6 10/31/13 College Visits College visit checklist of questions Schedule a college visit. Begin as soon as you can this year. After visit: continue contact with school; meet with admissions rep. when they visit TWHS List of schools visiting are on Naviance or in School counseling office 6

7 7 10/31/13 Athletics and Military Information Athletes: Division 1 and Division 2 NCAA Clearinghouse Register & Send a high school transcript at the end of Junior Year. Military Academy: If interested in a nomination to a military academy contact your state representative office or your School Counselor This process should be happening now! 7

8 8 10/31/13 FAFSA – Attend our Financial Aid Night on January 8th of 2015! The Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) www.oasfaa.org January 2016 of Senior year: Complete The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) - www.fafsa.ed.gov www.fafsa.ed.gov College Goal Sunday (February of 2016) 8

9 9 10/31/13 Scholarships The most money is generated by the school you select to attend (95%) - Merit based and Need Based Scholarships 3 Types of Scholarships: School Specific Web-based Search Engines: www.FinAid.com or www.Fastweb.comwww.FinAid.com www.Fastweb.com Local Scholarships are posted on Family Connection (Naviance) and come out in spring of Senior year. 9

10 10 10/31/13 ACT and SAT Begin taking these tests the spring of Junior year (ACT in Feb. is hosted at TWHS) Colleges/universities look for your best scores, whether they are on the ACT or the SAT. Take ACT w/Writing at least once The ACT is considered to be more curriculum driven than the SAT. Some Highly Selective Colleges will request SAT Subject tests - check with schools ACT/SAT Prep classes offered March 16-18, 7:45am-9:45am, $79 per student 10

12 12 10/31/13 Major Do Not’s Do not have inappropriate items posted on social networks! Proof Reading: Do not send anything that has not been thoroughly proofread by numerous individuals! Letters of Recommendation: Do not ask 4 or 5 people to write for you, when only 1-2 are necessary. 12

13 13 10/31/13 Next Steps Discuss tuition with your child. Begin or continue college research. Register for ACT/SAT Make official College Visits Encourage them to continue to academically excel College Application Process: Next Fall, Common App, Transcript Request on Naviance, senior recs, etc. Juniors should come back in fall knowing WHERE they are applying to and ready to start apps.!
