Earth and how it was created and changed Plate tectonics History of life Past climates

About Me!! Chemistry Maths Physics Geology Studying in UCD Dublin

Plate tectonics Movement of the earths lithosphere The lithosphere is broken up into plates Move around causing earthquakes and volcanoes and build mountains

Age of the earth The earths age is 4540000000 yrs!!!! The age of the solar system 4567000000yrs!!

Past climates

Volcanoes

Earthquakes

Rocks Sedimentary Igneous Metamorphic

Minerals SiO2

Fossils Preserved remains of animals Oldest fossils 1 billion years old and the youngest 11000yrs old!! Trace fossils

Oil and gas! Found in rocks underground Made from dead plants and animals It is used to heat our homes Non-renewable recourses Very expensive!!

Nuclear Energy Radioactive elements Nuclear energy heats water to generate steam to move turbines and generate electricity. Provides 6% of the worlds energy Sustainable energy May be a threat to people and the environment

Hydrogeology & Wind Energy Used to generate electricity Renewable!! It will be around forever Its cheaper ! Ireland is very suitable

Why become a geologist? You will learn a lot Help to protect the earths environment Help save peoples lives against natural disasters Travel the world And hopefully make a lot of money!!

How to become a geologist? Go to school! Listen to your teacher! Do your homework! Eat your dinner! And maybe if you have time…collect some rocks…!
