Bacterial vs. viral infections Bacteria are much larger than viruses Bacteria can be cured with antibiotics Viral diseases are not cured but some of the symptoms can be alleviated with medication. Viral infections will last a lifetime. Both bacteria and viral infections can have permanent changes to your body.

Bacterial VaginosisBacterial Vaginosis (BV) the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina is disrupted and replaced by an overgrowth of certain bacteria. It is sometimes accompanied by discharge, odor, pain, itching, or burning. Be abstinent. Limit the number of sex partners. Do not douche. Use all of the medicine prescribed for treatment of BV, even if the signs and symptoms go away.

Genital herpes the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Most individuals have no or only minimal signs one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum.
