22 Conquer your Fears Your brand is already at the mercy of those engaged in social media, so it is time to participate Establish a policy Recruit the experts - students and alumni under 30 (and preferably under 20) - many of them will work for free! Train and practice!

23 Listen and Research and Learn and Contribute Social Media is a conversation - at scale Social Media is not Broadcast - it is about Narrow- casting and interaction It is about what your target audience (alumni, students, prospective students) want to talk about It has to be purposeful You have to participate - you cannot dictate

25 Use Engagement as the New Customer Service and Marketing It is not about you, it is what they say about you that counts! Be Purposeful - this is not about pacifying, it is about empowering the right people to do what they wanted to do on your behalf Be Authentic - the masses do not easily fall for tricks Align with your audience, or be prepared for them to control the story
