2. Background Future Personal Goals Hobbies The About Me Project is about me, Austin Kent, and my life. In this presentation I will attempt to show my background, for me and my family, my future, my career and what intend to do when I get older for a profession, some personal goals, what I hope to accomplish in the future, and describe my hobbies, or the things I like to do in my free time. I will also be learning how to manipulate PowerPoint in order to make this project possible, by introducing elements that I learned from this Website Design class.

3. Main Menu My name is Austin Kent, and I am 16 years old. I was born in Loma Linda, California, and currently live in Colton, California. I attend school in Redlands, at Redlands High School. For some personal family background, my dad went to Cal Poly Pomona, while my mom graduated from Cal State San Bernardino. I have two brothers: one is a freshman in college at Cal Poly Pomona, David(18), and the other is a sophomore at RHS, Brian(15).Linda, CaliforniaColton, CaliforniaRedlands High SchoolCal Poly Pomona Cal State San Bernardino Pets have been a big part of my life, and I have owned pets for almost my whole life. I currently own 5 dogs, 4 of which are Labrador Retrievers, with the other being a Cairn Terrier. I used to own 3 cats, but they have all ran away or passed away. My mom and dad are divorced, so I live with both. They got divorced when I was going into 2 nd Grade. Before that I was attending Valley Preparatory School in Redlands, a Private school. After that, I moved to L.A. for a year, then came back to Redlands and Valley Prep, and eventually went to public school, partly because my dad could not afford the private anymore. Since then, I have gone to Kimberly Elementary, Cope Middle School, and now Redlands High School.L.A.

4. Main Menu In the Future, I hope to be able to go to college, preferably one in California, and I am currently looking at many Universities of California, such as UCLA and UCSB, and the Cal State Universities, such as LBSU and SJSU. I hope to be able to continue on my current course of playing water polo into college, and be able to play for the 4 eligible years that I can. After I graduate, I hope to be able to get a degree in History in order to become a history teacher, as history is my favorite subject. I also plan on becoming a water polo coach at whatever school I end up teaching at. Universities of CaliforniaCal State Universities I plan on teaching History because I have always have had a deep interest in our past, and I would love to be able to teach about this history to future generations. Currently I am a junior at RHS, and I am on pace to graduate, so it is important that I maintain my current course in order to keep up a good GPA as well as get a good SAT score, as both of those are dependent on how my future will play out.

5. Main Menu Some personal goals that I have are to play on the National League for water polo. The National league was just created this past year, in order to create a league inside the U.S. to have high level competition. Hopefully it can get to the level of the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLS and MLB. Currently there are 7 clubs, with the hope that there will be at least 10 by next year.National League NHLNBA I also hope to eventually play on the Men’s Senior National Team and go to the Olympics. This has always been a dream for me, to be able to compete for my country at the highest level of play. Most importantly, it starts by being able to compete at a high level of competition now and into college and later, for which extreme dedication is needed.Men’s Senior National Team Olympics On a different note, I also want to visit different parts of the world. Currently my water polo team is planning a trip to Serbia this summer, where we will play water polo and explore the country. Another country I have always wanted to visit in New Zealand, because of the great views, the rolling hills, and the spectacular environment. Australia is also on my list of top travel locations.Serbia

6. Water PoloSnowboardingMusic Main Menu Although I have many other hobbies, the three above stand out to me the most. Currently, I enjoy playing and watching water polo, and I am trying to compete at the highest level possible. I also enjoy recreational snowboarding. I go up snowboarding about twice a year, usually up to Mammoth mountain, as it is one of, if not the, best ski resorts in Southern California. I do not enjoy all of the fancy tricks that go with snowboarding, rather I enjoy just being on the slopes. Finally, I love listening to music of different genres, but also have my favorites. I like to listen to music all the time, and if there is no music I will make my own. I constantly sing or create my own music and listen and go along with music that I listen to.

7. Hobbies Menu Water polo is my favorite hobby right now. I play it almost every day and almost every weekend. I currently play for the Redlands Renegades, a local club team, as well as play for Redlands High’s varsity water polo team as a starter. I have been playing for almost 8 years now, but only 4 years competitively. This has left me with a deep passion for the game. Water polo can be described as basketball and hockey in the water. There are 6 field players and a goalie on each team. The field players play both offense and defense, and they attempt to score goals to win. It is a very contact-heavy game. There are usually 4 attackers, 1 center and 1 defender, and each team usually has a center-based attack. In water polo, any given player can get an unlimited amount of normal fouls and offensive, or Contra-fouls, but only 3 majors, which include exclusion fouls, and Penalty Shot fouls, which are both due to over-aggressive behavior or holding/ pulling somebody. If a player is ejected, a 6 v. 5 occurs for 20 seconds, which usually happens between 5-12 times a game. I enjoy water polo due to its competitiveness, and I enjoy challenges. This sport is what I want to play when I am older, so I will continue to push until I get as far as I can make it.

8. Hobbies Menu Snowboarding is a recreational activity that I enjoy immensely. I love going up to Mammoth Mountain and boarding up there for a week or so. I usually go every winter break, and sometimes during Spring break or Thanksgiving Break. Some of the things I enjoy are just boarding down challenging runs, going up to the top of the mountain and looking at the view, as well as just having a fun time rather than do jumps and tricks. Personally, some of my favorite runs are the ones that are challenging, but also do not require insane athleticism. Some of those runs are such things as “Lower Dry Creek”, and the Backside of the mountain. I just recently went up to Big Bear, but I personally did not enjoy it as someone who wants to be challenged. I began skiing when I was 3 or 4, and have been doing snow activities since. I stopped skiing about 6 or 7 years ago, in order to pursue snowboarding. Although I have been snowboarding for such a long time, I still have only been able to go during free time on breaks, and I have never been able to go to another state, like Colorado, in order to board there.

9. Hobbies Menu My music is an important part of my life, as it truly does control me daily. I listen to many genres, most of which I probably couldn’t categorize, but I do most certainly listen to a lot of rock music. I listen to AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and other old bands a lot, mostly because I enjoy that era of Rock ‘n Roll. I also love listening to some of today’s bands, such as 30 Seconds to Mars, Hinder, Foo Fighters, and Sick Puppies. I have only been to one concert, a 30STM concert, and I don’t really know if I want to go back because I just don’t enjoy concerts. The amount of people and the environment does not play to my interests. I like most of these bands due to their up-tempo, heavy rock songs. Songs by Foo Fighters, Sick puppies, and Hinder all have that hard rock sound to them, while the older bands, such as AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Bon Jovi, have those catchy names with great tunes and unforgettable choruses. I continuously use music in my life. I am either listening to music, singing, or a combination of both. I have had music lessons for Piano, Cello, and for Singing. I dropped all of them because this is not something I want to use as a major career option, so I felt to just keep it as a hobby.
