2 WYNN Wizard Some students do better comprehending material using several modes of learning. Interacting with text is now available using WYNN

3 User-Friendly Features Easy-to-use color-coded rotating toolbars provide all functions. Intuitive buttons and icons allow a short learning curve. Simultaneous auditory and visual presentation supports all learning styles. Easy to Learn! Easy to Teach! Text to Speech

4 How to Start WYNN Wizard Click the icon on the desktop to open. If the icon is not on your desktop, click “Start”, “Programs”, then WYNN Wizard/Reader It will prompt you to sign in. Click on a name, or type one in, then OK. Click OK to “Add as new user”.

5 Toolbars WYNN's four color-coded, rotating toolbars have a simple point-and-click interface that is extremely easy to use. Large buttons that are labeled with both pictures and words. Click on the colored arrows to go between all of the toolbars.

6 Standard Icons There are 5 standard icons that are on each toolbar. Next, Read, Write, Exact View and Other Doc.

7 Standard Icons NEXT Click on the colored arrow to access the different colored toolbars (blue, pink, yellow, green).

8 Standard Icons READ Click the “Read” icon to start reading. To pause click on the “Read” icon with the red circle.

9 Standard Icons WRITE Click the “Write” icon to write in a document. –Students can write answers to a scanned worksheet, summarize a selection or takes notes on what is read.

10 Standard Icons WRITE Click the “Write” icon to write in a document. –WYNN will read what the student has written.

11 Standard Icons WRITE The “Write” icon is only available in the “Text View” It is not available in “Actual View” (discussed later) If it is not available it will be gray as shown here.

12 Standard Icons EXACT VIEW/TEXT VIEW Switch between the Exact View and Text View of scanned documents. Text View is text without graphics or formatting. Exact View is read only, students can not write in Exact View.

13 File Management Toolbar TEXT VIEW This view shows the document as text only. There may be a few characters that are not identical to the original. Select the “Write” icon to clean up the document.

14 File Management Toolbar TEXT VIEW Students can edit and add text using the “Write” tool. A worksheet can be scanned and students can answer using the “Write” tool.

15 File Management Toolbar EXACT VIEW This view looks like the original document. Students can not write or edit in this view. WYNN can read the document in this view If it is a worksheet the student can write the answers on a paper copy.

16 Standard Icons OTHER DOC Switch between two documents that are open. There can be two text documents open or one text document and a blank page (File, New) There can only be 2 documents open at one time.

17 Standard Icons OTHER DOC Read the text document then switch to the blank document to write notes, lists, vocabulary or other information needed.

18 Standard Icons OTHER DOC In this activity list the vocabulary words then select the dictionary icon and copy and paste the definition with the word.

20 File Management Toolbar SCANNING A DOCUMENT This feature is only available in WYNN Wizard.

21 File Management Toolbar SCANNING A DOCUMENT Place the document on scanner matching the corner with the arrow. Click the scan icon shown above. Once the scan process is finished the document will be on the screen.

22 File Management Toolbar New - Opens a blank document. Open - Open a file. Microsoft Word files can be opened. Change the “File of Type” to “All Files”.

23 File Management Toolbar Close - This icon will close a file in WYNN but does not close the entire WYNN program. –To close WYNN you have to select then.

24 File Management Toolbar Save - When click “Save”, a folder comes up for the user that is signed into the program. This makes saving and opening a file easier for the student. Save As - Use “Save As” to change the file name or the file location.

25 File Management Toolbar Print - Select “Print” to print Actual View or Text View. –If a student uses the “Highlighter” tool (on the pink toolbar) the words will be highlighted when printed.

26 File Management Toolbar Email –Due to students in our district not having email capabilities, this button is not an option.

27 File Management Toolbar Go To Web –This icon brings up a web browser. –Type in a web address/URL. –WYNN will read the text on the website.

28 Visual Presentation Toolbar Visual Presentation Standard (Next, Read, Write, Other Document) Presentation of the document Size of the text, spacing, margins, and the type of font used Makes the page more readable GREEN

29 Visual Presentation Toolbar To access the different choices on these icons, click once to change the look. Click again to change again. The choices will continue to rotate. If you put your mouse (do not click) over the icon a pop up will tell you what is chosen.

30 Visual Presentation Toolbar When WYNN is opened it asks for a student to sign in. The visual enhancements chosen will remain selected for that child each time he/she signs in if the settings have been saved as that child’s default settings. –(See slide 68 for directions)

31 Visual Presentation Toolbar Size - Click on this icon and rotate to different choices of size. (10, 12, 14, 20, 24, 28, 40, 60) 12 20 40

32 Visual Presentation Toolbar Line Spacing - Click on this icon to add spacing between the lines. This keeps a page of text from looking busy.

33 Visual Presentation Toolbar Word Spacing - Click on this icon to space between words.

34 Visual Presentation Toolbar Side Margins - Lets you adjust the amount of blank space at the right and left sides of the document page.

35 Visual Presentation Toolbar Font - Click to see a selection of different fonts.

36 Visual Presentation Toolbar Color Choices- Click to see a selection of different background colors. This feature is particularly good for students that need visual enhancements while reading. (Scotopic Sensitivity, Visually Impaired)

37 Visual Presentation Toolbar Color Choices-There are more choices by going to the menu and selecting “settings” then “visual settings”.

38 Visual Presentation Toolbar Color Choices-You can select text color, background color, cursor text color (text color when highlighted) and spotlight color (highlighted text being read)

39 Visual Presentation Toolbar Color Choices- Sample color choices.

40 Visual Presentation Toolbar Line Masking-Mask a line, sentence or paragraph. This masks distracting text. Paragraph masking-only the paragraph is shown.

41 Visual Presentation Toolbar Read By...-This highlights the text being read by word, 3 words, line, sentence or paragraph.

42 Study Toolbar Study Tools Standard (Next, Read, Write, Other Document) Access to a dictionary and a thesaurus Highlight selected text using brightly- colored “markers.” Spell a word aloud or break it into syllables. PINK

43 Study Toolbar Dictionary - Click on a word in the document to highlight that word. Select the “Dictionary” icon. The definition will come up.

44 Study Toolbar Dictionary - WYNN will read the definition to the student by clicking on the >> keys.

45 Study Toolbar Dictionary - Click on “Look Up Synonyms” to get a list of synonyms.

46 Study Toolbar Spell - When clicked WYNN will say the word, spell it, then say it again. Syllables - Click this to hear the word pronounced in syllables.

47 Study Toolbar Highlight - Click on this icon to select a color. Student can double click on a word to highlight it, or click and drag to highlight a sentence or section.

48 Study Toolbar Highlight - Students can highlight answers, sentences or specific words like nouns, adjectives or verbs.

49 Study Toolbar Highlight - To erase highlights click on the Highlight icon and select the eraser. Double click or click and drag to erase highlighted text.

50 Study Toolbar Lists - Once a student highlights text in a document, they can click on the Lists icon and it will make a list of the highlighted text in a new document. becomes

51 Study Toolbar Note - A note can be inserted into the document. Place the cursor where you want the note. Click on the “Note” icon. A box will pop up to type a note. Type in a note then click “OK”.

52 Study Toolbar Note - A “Note” icon will appear in the document. Double click on the “Note” icon to read the note.

53 Study Toolbar Note - The note can be directions or comments from the teacher; or, it can be notes the student writes about what is being read.

54 Writing Toolbar Writing Tools Standard (Next, Read, Write, Other Document) Cut, copy or paste text Run a spell check Find a specific word in the document. YELLOW

55 Writing Toolbar Cut, copy or paste icons work the same as other programs. Copy from other documents or the web. Highlight a word or sentence and select the “Copy” icon. Place your cursor in the document where you want the text. Click “Paste”

56 Writing Toolbar Style Icon –Use for standard formatting of Bold, Italic and Underline.

57 Writing Toolbar Click the “Find” icon and get two options: “Text” and “Mark Up”.

58 Writing Toolbar Click the “Find” icon and get two options: “Text” and “Mark Up”. Click “Text” to find a word or partial word within the open document and replace it with alternate text.

59 Writing Toolbar Click the “Find” icon and get two options: “Text” and “Mark Up”. Click “Mark-Up” to get four options: Highlight, Bookmark, Text Note. Click on the Mark-Up item you wish to find.

60 Writing Toolbar Go To –Jump to a selected page in a multi- page document.

61 Writing Toolbar Outlines –Organize ideas, concepts and topics using the Outline feature. –Create an outline in one document, then open a blank document and use the outline to create a research or writing assignment.

62 Writing Toolbar Adjust –Use this icon to format the outline to represent the levels in the document. –Importance can be changed through different levels in the outline using the Adjust icon.

63 Writing Toolbar Predict –As you type, it can "predict" which word you want. –Type a few characters and it will predict a list of potential words you can use. Once a word list appears, simply select the correct word and it will be placed in the document.

64 Writing Toolbar Speak List –This feature reads the list of words in the Word Prediction list. –This helps students select the correct word for their document.

65 Writing Toolbar Spell Check –Standard spell check to aid the student in accurate spelling.

66 Settings Some setting choices other than what has been shown in this training module can be seen by going to the “Settings” option on the menu line.

67 Settings You can also learn more about program features by going to the “Help” menu.

68 Settings Once settings have been changed for a particular student’s needs, save the settings as that student’s default settings. When the student signs in the settings will be automatic. 1. Select “Settings” then “Save Settings”2. Click “Default” then “Save”

69 Uses for WYNN Students use the highlighter tool to highlight specific information (e.g. main idea, vocabulary words, errors, answers to specific questions) Open a file with text. Open a “new” file (blank). Students can read from the document with text, then use the “Other Document” tool to go to the blank file and copy notes, lists or important facts. Open a “New” blank file. Students produce writing assignments. Use the “Read” tool to hear what has been written. Edit or use spell check to make corrections.
