You can organise your documents in folders for different jobs or tasks, such as ‘Homework’, ‘House’ or ‘Family’. Click on ‘Save’ every few minutes to save your progress.

Any new words you type will appear here. Use the keyboard to type words and numbers. The ‘Shift’ key lets you enter capital letters and symbols. Use the keyboard arrows to move the cursor around your text, or click where you want it to go.

Formatting lets you: make titles or important words stand out make your work look serious or fun guide readers by giving a structure to what you write.

Press the left mouse button at the start of the text you want to highlight. Holding the button, drag your mouse right and down until you have highlighted all you want. You can now format this text.

Bold works well for titles Italics work well if you want to make one or two words stand out. If you want to make a lot of words stand out, underlining them is often the best way, as this makes them easier to read.

For normal writing, leave the text aligned to the left. Use ‘Center’ for notices and posters. Use ‘Right’ to position your address. ‘Justify’ spreads text to each side. This works best if you want your writing to look like a book or newspaper.

Highlight the text you want to move, then hold down keys as follows: CTRL + X to cut out this text CTRL + C to copy this text CTRL + V to paste this text in a new place (move and click your cursor there first)

Select which printer you want to use, and how many copies you want. You can also select which pages you want to print, so you don't waste paper and ink.

You can also choose to insert clip art – ready-made cartoons of people, things, places and actions. Place your cursor where you want the picture to go then use your toolbar or menu to choose which picture to add.

You can also move between cells using the arrow keys. Highlight text in cells to change its font, size, colour and style, just like ordinary text.
