4 Arrival & Dismissal Transportation Tags ~Received in mail ~Wear Daily on Shirt for 1 st month Arrival ~Doors open at 8:45a.m. ~Tardy after 9:15a.m. Dismissal ~Begins at 3:45p.m. ~ Pick up prior to 3:45p.m. is tardy ~Dismissed based on your child’s emergency card unless otherwise notified in writing.

5 Lunch Choice of buying or packing lunch daily (pack: easy to open items) Microwaving food is not an option Teachers and lunch assistants will be available to help your child through the lunch line. All students will have a pin number when buying lunch.

6 Birthdays Edible treats are not allowed due to food allergies May send in non-edible treats such as a pencil, stickers, etc. Birthday invitations may be handed out in the classroom if done unobtrusively

7 English Language Arts (ELA) Alphabetic Knowledge: Letters Phonemic Awareness: Sounds Phonics: Letter Sound Relationships Writing High Frequency Words Concepts About Print: Book Handling

8 Alphabetic Knowledge Differentiates letters from shapes and numbers Identifies upper and lower case letters by name Spoken sounds correspond to specific letters or a combination of letters

9 Phonemic Awareness Working with sounds orally Rhyme Supply Syllables Hears sounds within words Begins to blend sounds together

10 Phonics Letter-sound relationships to decode words in isolation and text Hearing sounds in words ~Beginning, Middle, End Sounds

11 Writing Shares ideas orally and draws a picture Writes about different topics Uses space between words Aware of resources (word wall) Captialization & Punctuation Shares writing with others Uses conventional and invented spelling

12 High Frequency Words By January, students will be able to read 25 words in isolation. By May, students will be able to read 50 words in isolation. Look for your child’s Letter/Word ID Folder

13 Letter/Word Folder Keep at home all year Practice Daily Receiving tonight Please read prior to working with your child Contact your child’s teacher with questions/concerns

16 Assessments Math Unit Interviews (tests) 1-4 ~January & May Benchmark ELA Assessments: 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) ~Letter Id, Letter Sounds, CAP, DAPPA (Phonemic Awareness), High Frequency Words, Hearing Sounds in Words (Dictation Sentence)

17 Reports Interims sent home midway through each quarter Report cards sent home quarterly (4x per yr) Data Sheets sent home at the end of each Math Unit ELA Data Sheets sent home 3x per yr (Fall, Winter, Spring)

18 Conferences Held in the evenings of October 16 & 24, November 4 & 12 Attend one of the four nights Look for paper to be sent home in early September for scheduling

19 Field Trips Summer’s Farm on October 25 Taneytown Library March Maryland Zoo on April 11 Kindergarten Picnic in June Must be trained at least 7 days prior to trip in order to volunteer.

20 Volunteer Training Volunteer opportunities: ~at home ~at school ~special activities ~field trips Training Dates/Times: Aug 22,27,29 & Oct 16

21 Attendance Send in a note to your child’s teacher after every absence explaining the reason for the absence Contact the school nurse or school counselor if your child will be absent more than 3 days Make up work for Kindergarten is difficult, much of our day is not in written format.

22 Tips Open House ~Tomorrow 2:00-3:00 School Supplies may be dropped off today or tomorrow (no labeling) First Day Transportation~ Remind your child how they will be getting home. Change of Clothes~ NEEDED for EVERY child (no shorts)

23 Reminders Talk to your child about their day at school Read to your child daily! Check folder daily Tennis Shoes on PE days No flip-flops or open toed shoes allowed on playground equipment Girls should wear shorts under dresses
