Personalizing Your Homecare Jordan C Sisson Co-Owner & General Manager July 2015

Introduction  Jordan Sisson, Co-Owner & General Manager of Camelot Personal Care Inc.  We are a locally (Family) owned and operated company offering Homecare and Nursing services to all of Western Manitoba. Camelot was officially opened in January of 2006 under the CEO Cynthia Sisson’s direction we quickly grew to become one of the largest service provider of this type in Westman. Working independently but in cooperation with Veterans Affairs Canada, Blue Cross, RHA’s and private industrial sector employers we have grown drastically in size over the course of the 9 years and proudly opened a satellite location right here inside Rotary Villas in March of 2015 providing any services to the Residents that now call this home.

How To Personalize Your Homecare Homecare services are a private matter that should be well thought out and ensured that the proper needs and wants are attended to. This presentation will cover a few of the “headliners” on how you can personalize your own Homecare plan.

Home Care…What Is It?  We have probably all heard the term “homecare” used at one point or another. Lots of times this term comes with some negative aura simply due to the fact that when most people hear it the first thought is someone unable take care of themselves….WRONG!  Homecare is simply a service based industry assisting individuals of ALL AGES with daily needs and tasks. As we age, during disease processes, accidents and life's curves sometimes daily needs are more of a struggle than they used to be.  Prefer to think of Homecare as any services that one receives based out of their home. Nursing care, Housekeeping, Laundry, Yard Maintenance lets consider all of that homecare!

Homecare “Categories”  Homecare Companion  Meal Prep, Housekeeping, Grocery Shopping, Errands and Outings, Transportation assistance, Medical Appointment Accompaniment, Companionship, Activities  Homecare Aide  Bathing Assistance, Medication Reminders/Distribution, Pressure Stockings, Oxygen Therapy  Nursing Care  Wound Care, Post Surgical Specialty Care, Insulin Care Etc.

Choosing a Homecare Provider  Things to consider when choosing your homecare provider  Qualifications specific to your wants and needs?  Insured and Bonded (Remember they will have access to your home)  Length of time in the “business”  Client referrals and testimonials (ask for references)  The “Personality Mesh”  This is one of the most important in our eyes. The person that will be assisting you with your wants and needs must be someone that you can get along with, feel comfortable with and trust. If you have someone who's just not working, ask for a change.

A group decision?  Friends, Family, Neighbors etc. all play a vital role in our day to day lives on some level. By taking the time to discuss the changes in your life with the people that matter the most to you, you will avoid feeling all the stress or burden of the world falls on your shoulders.  Often times loved ones will notice changing needs before you do. Take constructive input as it is, nobody is here to point fingers or accuse you of any inability, they do it because they care.

Wants VS Needs Everyone here can differentiate a want compared to a need. When it comes to homecare sometimes one of he biggest struggles is admitting that need. As mentioned in the previous slide, by discussing life's changes with loved ones, putting these needs into perspective may be a bit easier. Admitting that you might require a little assistance never means that your admitting incompetence, inability, or that you will loose your independence. A great homecare provider will leave you feeling happy, healthy, less stressed and NEVER alter your feeling of independence. Remember sometimes our family's “wants” are really your “needs”, an outside perspective often helps!

Funding, Fees & How To Make It All Work  When searching for Homecare to assist with your wants and needs you may find that the only option viable financially is publically funded RHA Homecare as that is what we have been taught to believe. There are many different avenues for funding Homecare:  Personal Funds  Private Insurance Companies (Third Party Insurance)  Self Managed/Family Managed Care (RHA Funded choose your provider)  Veterans Affairs Canada  MPI

Funding, Fees and How To Make It Work  Personal Funds  Out of pocket payment for services received  Private Insurance  Many insurance companies such as Blue Cross have plans that will cover certain homecare needs  Veterans Affairs Canada  As a Veteran you and your spouse are entitled to certain levels of care funded by the Federal Program through VAC.  MPI  Accidents happen and when they do and cause harm to your person, MPI is there to keep you covered. Rehabilitation, Homecare, Daily Assistance are all things that if you have ended up injured do to a collision etc. MPI will help cover these costs.  Self Managed Care/Family Managed Care  Program run through RHA where a clients needs are assessed and a certain amount of service hours are funded based on this assessment. Funds are deposited through the RHA directly into an account and you are free to hire a care provider of your choice to carry out these services.
