1 Ms. Cagle’s Class Rules and Procedures!

2 Welcome Dear Student, My name is Ms. Hillary Cagle, and I am your science teacher. I attended Georgia College and State University where I earned a bachelors degree in Middle Grades education with concentrations and certification in science, language arts, and reading. This year in science will be discovering how energy and matter undergo a multitude of changes through hands-on experiences and performance tasks. Over the last few years, I have become increasingly passionate and interested in the motivation and development of middle school youth, and I am constantly looking for new ways to teach you. Outside of school I enjoy watching the Braves play, engaging in service opportunities, running 5ks, and spending time outdoors.

3 Today you will need Paper Agenda Writing utensil 2 to 3 sheets of paper

4 Procedures for entering my classroom 1.Stand in a quiet line outside my door. 2. Come in quietly and get out the following materials – 1. Binder – 2. Agenda – 3. Warm-ups

5 Procedures for entering classroom 3. Write agenda message and have it signed by teacher. Please write today’s agenda message now. 4. Copy the warm-up and then the one correct answer choice on your paper. 5. After five to ten minutes, the timer will go off and we will answer your multiple choice warm-up question. We will do this by holding up a 1 for A, 2 for B, 3 for C, or 4 for D. (There is NO talking during this time)

8 Warm-up question number 2 (or question number 1 for 4 th and 5 th period) When entering the classroom, the first thing I do is? A. Get out the days materials B. Write the warm-up down C. Come in and sit down quietly without talking. D. Write the agenda message

10 Procedures for classroom activities 1.After warm-up wait quietly for teachers instructions on the activity of the day. 2.All assignments are turned into your class period box. 3.Follow all classroom rules and guidelines of behavior. 1.If you forget these rules or guidelines, refer back to these notes or to the front of the classroom where they are listed.

11 Classroom Rules There are FOUR simple rules: – 1. Stay positive – 2. Be polite – 3. Stay in seat unless given permission or told otherwise. – 4. If the teacher or another student is talking, be courteous and don’t talk! Also, do not talk unless the teacher has given permission.

12 Consequences There are both positive and negative consequences for the rules NEGATIVE (You break the rules): You go to the next step on discipline plan. (We will review these steps) Positive (You follow the rules): Positive parent contact, extra lab time, etc.

15 Warm-up for 8/9/10 You have 3 min for Warm-up and Agenda message Which is not one of the FOUR simple rules? A. Stay Positive B. Be polite C. Stay in seat D. Don’t ask questions.

16 Procedures for Lecture 1.Be quiet and take notes! 2. Slides and other activities will be timed so hurry! 3. Set your paper up with your name, date, subject, and class period in the upper right hand corner. 4. On the first line of the paper, write the standard(s) we are covering that day. On the second line the essential question.

17 If you have a question or need something from the teacher during the lecture or other activity (including warm-ups ): Hold up the number one for: Going to the bathroom. You are only allowed to go under extreme circumstances. Hold up a number two for: Needing water Hold up a number three for: Needing Supplies

18 If you have a question or need something from the teacher during the lecture or other activity (including warm-ups ): Hold up a number four for teacher assistance or a question. At NO TIME should you call Ms. Cagle’s name or speak without being acknowledged. If you call Ms. Cagle’s name or speak without permission, she will not respond to you

19 Procedures for individual work 1.Your quiet and working. Remember you have a limited amount of time to complete the material. 2.Set your paper up the same way you did for the lecture notes. 3.Follow the four finger rule

20 Warm-up 8/10/10 You have 3 minutes to write down your agenda message and to complete your warm- up! 1. If I need to go to ask a question, I hold up A. Number one B. Number two C. Number three D. Number four

21 Procedures for group work 1.Every one works!!!!!! 2.E very one has their own sheet of paper to turn in. 3.Talk quietly and only to your assigned group members or the people beside you. 4.NO GETTING OUT OF SEAT WITHOUT PERMISSION!

22 Procedures for group work 5. Set your paper up the same way as you did for individual work and lecture. 6. Follow the four finger rule.

23 Procedures for video BE QUIET! There will be breaks to ask questions, to give commentary and get info missed. Head your paper the same as for LECTURE OR GROUP WORK Follow the four finger rule!

24 Procedures for Labs 1.FOLLOW and KNOW LAB SAFETY GUIDELINES! 2.Head your paper the same as lecture or group work! 3. At no time is HORSEPLAY ever allowed in class. This especially applies to LAB. If a student does “mess up”, the student will miss out on the next one or two labs. 4. Remember LAB IS A PRIVELEDGE!

25 Procedures for dismissal Ms. Cagle’s timer will go off when it is time to clean up for dismissal. Clean up your area: Make sure there is no paper left, all books are stacked, there is nothing on the floor beneath you. Stand up and push in your chair. Make sure there are no papers on the ground The bell will ring and MS. CAGLE will dismiss you
