8 Welcome from Principal, Jackie Doodson If you are reading this then there is a good chance that you are already considering joining us at North Shropshire College (NSC), so I would like to thank you for your interest. Our students, past and present, tell us that our College is a fantastic place to be a student so you would be making a great choice. We have an extensive choice of full and part-time courses to suit all interests and abilities, delivered at campuses across Shropshire: Oswestry, Walford (Land based studies), Shipley, and the Aspire Centre in Tenbury Wells. We also offer an extensive range of apprenticeships delivered in the workplace. We offer courses from level one through to degree level with new courses being introduced regularly. Please come in and talk to our advice and guidance staff or pop in to one of our open events and chat to our staff – we would love to see or hear from you. The staff here at NSC are passionate about your success. They are talented teachers and very experienced in their subject areas. You will be well supported all the way through your time with us to ensure you achieve your goals and aspirations. We will work with you on an individual basis to ensure you gain the right skills, knowledge and qualifications you’ll need for when you leave to take that next step – whether to secure a place at University, start on a career path or set up your own business. We are proud of our academic achievements at NSC, last year the success rates were above the national average, with our A level pass rate at 100%. Added value on vocational provision is at or above national average; this reflects the dedicated support provided by our professional staff who use their industrial experience to set high expectations of students. We provide outstanding support through our learning coaches as well as arranging extra activities such as study trips, clubs, sporting activities, work experience and so much more to ensure that you develop as an individual as well as having some fun! You will find your learning experience at NSC is greatly enhanced by our learning environment. We have invested significantly to provide you with first class teaching and learning facilities as well as student social spaces. I look forward to welcoming you to North Shropshire College.

9 Getting here Flying is the easiest way to get here from Europe. The best airports are either Birmingham or Manchester, but Liverpool could also be suitable. There are direct train links from both Birmingham airport and Manchester airport to Shrewsbury, where you could be picked up and brought to the College. Shrewsbury is about one hour from Birmingham airport and one and half hours from Manchester airport.

10 Where to stay Depending on when your module is running there may be rooms available on the College campus otherwise we can arrange accommodation in Shrewsbury and access to transport to get into the College.

11 Do’s and Don’ts To make sure you enjoy your experience whilst at College Do Make use of your Mentor to ask questions and to give you guidance on all aspects of College life. Do take the opportunity to visit the local area. Do use the opportunity to make contacts with other students. Do respect the College’s premises and facilities. Don’t Drink excessively, the legal age for purchasing alcohol in the UK is 18. Miss out on the opportunity to experience the local culture.

12 Food and Drink Food and drink will be available from the College canteen for all meals if required. There are local pubs in the nearby village. Shrewsbury has a wide selection of restaurants.

13 Insurance To get to the UK you will need your own travel insurance. While you are studying you will covered by the College insurance as you will be enrolled here.

14 Module Mentor You will be allocated a Mentor whilst studying at the College. They will be there to give you guidance about:- Your course Student life Practical arrangements whilst staying in the UK What you can do in your spare time
