What is the ADDIE model ?  This model takes you through the process of creating effective educational courses and materials.  It is used as a blueprint for making and designing any instructional process  It is used for comparing and contrasting more developed models A D D I E

Historical Overview  Created by Florida State University for determining the process involved in the formation of a program for military training.  In 1997 it was said that other ID models can be used with ADDIE making it an all-purpose model.  In the 1980’s the model was updated to the one that is most seen today.

ADDIE includes five phases

Analysis Phase  The designer identifies the learning problems, objectives, the learning environment, as well as the learners’ existing knowledge and skills.  These are some of the questions asked  Who are the learners?  What are their characteristics?  What type of learning constraints exist?  What is the timeline for project completion?

Design Phase  The design phase deals with instruments, learning objectives, exercises, and lesson planning.  This phase should be planned and specific. Using well- organized methods of identifying and developing a set of strategies.  They should document every design strategy and create a prototype.

Development Phase  In this phase, instructional designers create and assemble components created in the design phase.  The designers create storyboards and graphics. If online learning is involved programmers develop technologies.  The project is then reviewed and revised according to feedback.

Implementation Phase  During this phase the plan is put into action. A procedure and training are provided for the teacher and student.  Training facilitators go over the course curriculum with teachers on method of delivery, and testing procedures.  With students they train them over new software and hardware, as well as registration.

Evaluation Phase  There are two different evaluations taking place.  The Formative evaluation is done in each of the ADDIE stages.  The Summative evaluation consists of tests about the criteria, and provides feedback from the users.

Evaluation Phase  Rapid prototyping – also known as continual feedback, has been a way that the generic ADDIE model has been improved.

Summary  The ADDIE model guides you through the process of creating effective educational courses and materials. The five phases are..  Analyze  Design  Develop  Implement  Evaluate
