1 Mock Test 1 (2012-2013): Detailed Analysis

2 Introduction Mock Test 1 has been created on the pattern of Common Law Admission Test. This test represents the exact level of difficulty both in terms of question type and level. The test has five sections with a total of 200 questions. A student is expected to attempt this test in 120 minutes in actual test like environment. 3 English This section was a combination of questions that tested comprehension ability, grammar and vocabulary. Overall the section had easy to moderate level of difficulty. The section consisted of:  1 RC Passage (Total 10 questions)  4 questions on Vocabulary - synonyms  4 questions on Word spelling  5 questions on Para Jumbles  4 questions on Contextual Vocabulary (Fill in the blanks)  5 questions on Idioms  4 questions on Grammar – Identify correct sentences  3 questions on Grammar – Tenses (Fill in the blanks)

No. Key Concepts and Brief Description Overall Level of Difficulty Strategy 1 to 10 Reading Comprehension (Noise pollution) Easy - Moderate The questions were a healthy mix of easy and moderately difficult questions. All the questions should have been attempted as the options were based on the details given in the passage and could be easily eliminated. 11 to 14 Vocabulary - Synonyms Easy - Moderate At least three out of the four questions should have been attempted. 15 to 18 Vocabulary - Spelling Moderate - Difficult At least two of the four questions should have been attempted.

5 Questions in detail: 19 & 22 Grammar – Identify the correct sentences Easy - Moderate Three out of the four questions should have been attempted. Q. 19 could have been left un-attempted. 23 to 27 Contextual Vocabulary (Fill in the blanks) Moderate - Difficult Q. 23 and Q. 24 were tougher than the rest and could have been left un-attempted. 28 & 32Idioms - Meaning Easy - Moderate Even if one was unaware of the idioms used it was possible to arrive at the answers through elimination. 33 to 35 Fill in the blanks - Tenses Moderate At least two out of the three questions should have been attempted. Q. 33 was tougher than the other two and could be left un- attempted. 36 to 40 ParajumblesModerate The best approach here would have been by identifying mandatory pairs. Q. 38 was tough and could have been left un-attempted.

6 General Knowledge This section contained mixed variety of questions from all genres covering national-international events, personalities, places, awards, history, geography, polity, economy and science & technology. The section was almost equally divided into current affairs and static GK part consisting of:  24 Static GK questions  26 Current Affair questions Overall, the section was of Moderate to hard difficulty level. Students required to be well-versed with both the current affairs as well as other areas of GK.

8 Mathematics This section of the test was of easy to moderate level of difficulty. The section consisted of:  4 questions on Number System  4 questions on Algebra  11 questions on Arithmetic  1 question on Geometry The section covered all the topics as shown above. The distribution of questions was more towards Algebra, Arithmetic, Numbers. Almost all the Quantitative Ability questions were based on fundamentals and involved few calculations.

10 Logical Reasoning This section tested two areas of Logical Reasoning:  Verbal Reasoning  Analytical Reasoning It had 35 questions on Verbal Reasoning and 5 questions on Analytical Reasoning. The questions were of moderate difficulty level and tested the ability of students to think logically and analytically. The student was expected to understand the language of the question and then to use reason and logic in order to deduce the answer.

11 Analytical Reasoning: This section was of moderate difficulty. The section consisted of:  3 questions on Analytical Reasoning  1 question on series  1 question on Blood Relation Verbal Reasoning: This section was of moderate level of difficulty. The section mainly consisted of:  Syllogisms – Statement Conclusion (5 questions)  Assertion Reason (5 questions)  Argument – Strengthen/Weaken (10 questions)  Statement – Argument (5 questions)  Reasoning – Paragraph based (5 questions)  Inference – Conclusion (5 questions) Logical Reasoning

Q. 127, 130, 131 and 133 were difficult and could have been left un-attempted. 141 to 145 Reasoning – Paragraph based Easy - Moderate These questions were of a moderate level. The correct answer for all could have been arrived through elimination. Q. 143 and 144 were slightly more difficult than the others. 146 to 150 Inference - ConclusionModerate This set was of moderate difficulty level. Information should have been interpreted carefully. Eliminating options could have done questions. Verbal Reasoning:

14 Legal Aptitude This section had 50 questions on Legal Aptitude comprising of both Legal Reasoning as well as Legal Knowledge:  30 questions on Legal Reasoning  20 questions on Legal Knowledge Overall, the section was of Moderate difficulty level. The section tested the ability of students to understand and interpret the legal language. At the same time, they were also expected to have some basic knowledge of the constitution and other legal developments around.

15 Questions in detail:  Legal Reasoning: The legal reasoning was a real brain twister comprising of 12 cluster questions (common principle and facts to many series of questions) and 18 individual questions which were of easy to moderate difficulty level. Questions were from Law of Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, International Law and also on General Legal Principles. The cluster questions were all from Law of Contract.  Legal Knowledge: The Legal Knowledge part of Mock 1 was not a cinch. The overview of general principles of law was necessary to be able to effectively finish these 20 questions. The majority of questions even though were not from current legal developments but nevertheless were not so easy.
