2 Similes: Similes use the words ‘like’ or ‘as’. Well-known similes are:
“cute as a kitten,” comparing the way someone looks to the way a kitten looks “as busy as a bee” comparing someone’s level of energy to a fast-flying bee "as snug as a bug in a rug" comparing someone who is very cozy to how comfortable a bug can be in a rug

3 Onomatopoeia: The definition of onomatopoeia is a poetic structure of words to convey how something sounds. Examples of onomatopoeia include: Calling a train a ‘choo choo’ Calling a cat a ‘meow’ ‘Banging’ on a drum

4 Alliteration: The definition of alliteration is a grammatical term meaning two or more words in a row starting with the same sounds. ‘Wind Whipping Wildly’ is an example of alliteration

5 Personification: Personification is giving human characteristics to non-living things or ideas. To say the sun is shining is personification. Personification also means a person or thing thought of as representing some quality, thing, or idea; embodiment; perfect example: he is the personification of honesty

6 Adjectives: The definition of an adjective is a part of speech that is used to describe a noun. Red, tall and fast are all example of adjectives It also means any of the words belonging to this part of speech, such as white in the phrase a white house.

7 Imagery: The definition of imagery is pictures created by the mind or from memory An example of imagery is a person remembering what their first pet looked like. Images created in your head is imagery

8 Metaphor: The definition of a metaphor is a word or phrase used to compare two unlike objects, ideas, thoughts or feelings to provide a clearer description. An example of a metaphor is calling the dependable father a rock. The snow is a white blanket.  The hospital was a refrigerator. The classroom was a zoo.

9 Senses: A sense is defined as a way that the body perceives external stimuli, or is an awareness or feeling about something. Tasting, touching, seeing and hearing are all examples of a sense. If you have a feeling that danger is lurking, this is an example of a sense of danger.
