Purpose: Describe a single person, object or idea

5 senses 1.Use the 5 senses to describe how something or someone: Sounds Smells Tastes Looks Feels
2.Use Imagery Details that allow the reader to see in his or her mind the same thing you see in yours
3.Use Specific Descriptive Words Instead of “good” use: Soothing Aromatic Scrumptious Silky Attractive
4.Use figurative language Examples: Similes Metaphors
SimileSimile Makes a comparison using “like” or “as” Example: Johnny is as stubborn as a mule.
MetaphorMetaphor Makes a comparison of two unlikely things without using “like” or “as” Example: Don’t be such a pig. Leave some for the rest of us.
