What is the Gen i Revolution?? http://www.genirevolution.org/ or facebook.com/genirevolution

Gen i Revolution is  a suite of FREE interactive, Web-based computer games  designed to teach students the basics of personal finance and investments  games designed to be playable as stand-alone missions  even more effective as a supplement to your classroom instruction.

THE STORYLINE  People are losing confidence in their ability to save and invest.  This confusion is called “the Murktide.”

 The mysterious Monique founded her movement, the Gen i Revolution, to fight the Murktide.  Students take on the role of operatives in Monique’s movement.

THE THREE GAMES 1. (The original) Gen i Revolution, 15 missions, full classroom support 2. Beyond the Mission, 6 independent, stand-alone missions (start here!) 3. Murktide Invasion, a single stand-alone game

BEYOND THE MISSION  Interactive game with full tablet and Facebook support  You are an advisor to your peers – make good recommendations!  Two voice characters will also advise, but one is a double agent for the Murktide

BEYOND THE MISSION  To win, make the right recommendations every time.  Even one wrong choice along the way will, at the end, return you to the start.  Bonus points if you identify the double agent!

TO START THE GAME:  If you have a Facebook account, go to facebook.com/genirevolution facebook.com/genirevolution  If not, go to www.genirevolution.org www.genirevolution.org  In either case, click on this little patch:

MURKTIDE INVASION  Interactive game with full tablet and Facebook support  This game is just a 100- question quiz on personal finance  Wrapped in a strategy game that rewards skillful play

MURKTIDE INVASION  The Murktide has taken over large areas and turned them red.  Our side’s areas are green.  You get a turn to answer five questions.  Every correct answer gives you one more agent (contact).

MURKTIDE INVASION  Deploy (“reinforce”) your agents in a green area bordering the red.  You want greater numbers.  Now attack that red area!  As the invasion continues, you push back the Murktide to the ocean.

TO START THE GAME:  If you have a Facebook account, go to facebook.com/genirevolution facebook.com/genirevolution  If not, go to www.genirevolution.org www.genirevolution.org  In either case, click on this little patch:

AND, FINALLY:  The classic Gen i Revolution game has full support for teachers and in-class teams.  Developed in reaction to stock market simulations’ rewarding of speculative and gambling strategies.  But the game is hard. 

OBJECT OF THE CLASSIC GEN i GAME  Accumulate as many points as possible by correctly answering questions and giving good financial advice to contacts.

Gen i Revolution has a companion print volume:  Learning, Earning, and Investing for a New Generation

To see the game as if a student:  Go to genirevolution.org and register as a student, class code 578f1a

Teacher Set Up 1. Register as a Teacher 2. Create a class 3. Once created, you will receive a class code. Your students will use that code to log in.

Student Set Up  Students can self-register using your class code but they need an email address.  An email is sent to the student to activate the account so have students register BEFORE you want them to use the site in class.

Student Set Up  If student email is a problem the teacher can register students individually.

Hints:  Keep a calculator and notepad handy  If you are demonstrating the first lesson in class – start with Mission #2  Students find navigating the game very easy

Hints: Students tend to get stuck in two places: 1. After they log in (they should go to the map) 2. After choosing a team and hearing the mission briefing (start with the 411)

Hints:  The answers are out there. Concerned?  use a computer lab where the game can be monitored  test the information in class and average the grades  give only a participation grade
