Assignment Description WHATWHAT HOW Notional Hours 3 1.Have a group discussion in the plant to identify: the location of the electrical substation feeding the plant as well as the main feed power line all fixed electrical applications such as power cables, electric motors, circuit breakers, fuses, switchboards, earth leakage, single phase and three phase different electrical hand-tools commonly used in the plant such as drills, welders and grinders 2.Summarise the applications for the electrical devices and the usage of the electrical hand-tools in the plant Attend a short lecture where the basic electrical terminology and applications for electrical devices used in the plant are explained Visit the site to identify electrical devices

5 Commissioned by PAMSA and German Technical Co-Operation National Certificate in Paper & Pulp Manufacturing NQF Level 2 Critical Cross-field Outcomes Identify and solve problems Work effectively with others Communicate effectively Organise and manage myself and my activities Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information Use science and technology effectively and critically Demonstrate an understanding of the world as a set of related systems Use mathematics Learner and societal development US: TUE001/1Comply with electrical safety standards in a process plant TE204 Understand electrical safety standards in the plant Know who the responsible person is for compiling and authorizing safety standards and emergency procedures Know the purpose of safety standards and emergency procedures Know the electrical safety standards, lock-outs, how it can be enforced and related emergency procedures in the plant Know the disciplinary measures applicable when electrical safety standards are ignored in the plant Be able to implement electrical safety standards and emergency procedures in the plant Be able to react appropriately when a deviation from the electrical safety standards is identified

6 Commissioned by PAMSA and German Technical Co-Operation National Certificate in Paper & Pulp Manufacturing NQF Level 2 Topic Specification: TE204Understand electrical safety standards in the plant Collect Information Use Multi media Self Study Field visits Media search Interview experts Attend lectures Analyse, plan and make decisions Group Discussions Educational games Case studies Use checklists Develop recommendations Execute, test and evaluate Job assignment Make presentation Complete documents Draft a report Complete a test/questionnaire Learning ActivitiesTopic assessment criteria The assessor will observe and confirm that learners: Know the purpose of safety standards and emergency procedures Know who the responsible person is for compiling and authorizing safety standards and emergency procedures Know the electrical safety standards, lock-outs, how it can be enforced and related emergency procedures in the plant Know the disciplinary measures applicable when electrical safety standards are ignored in the plant Are able to implement electrical safety standards and emergency procedures in the plant Are able to react appropriately when a deviation from the electrical safety standards is identified Assignment Description WHATWHAT HOW 1.Learners use questions arising from safety documentation as a guide for a plant discussion with a safety specialist. 2.A facilitator present case studies to the group and assist the group to understand how electrical safety standards and emergency procedures should be applied and what the appropriate reactions are when deviations from the electrical safety standards are identified 3.Learners demonstrate to assessor: how lock-outs should be used how different emergency procedures in the plant is applied 4.Learners complete a multiple choice test to confirm knowledge of electrical safety standards in the plant Notional Hours 4 Individual or group training. Obtain safety standards and emergency procedures. Gain understanding through self study and discussions with safety experts. Apply knowledge in a practical safety check.

7 Commissioned by PAMSA and German Technical Co-Operation National Certificate in Paper & Pulp Manufacturing NQF Level 2 Critical Cross-field Outcomes Identify and solve problems Work effectively with others Communicate effectively Organise and manage myself and my activities Collect, analyse, organise and critically evaluate information Use science and technology effectively and critically Demonstrate an understanding of the world as a set of related systems Use mathematics Learner and societal development US: TUE001/1Comply with electrical safety standards in a process plant TE204 Understand electrical fires in the plant Understand the causes of electrical equipment fires Be able to select the right fire extinguisher for an electrical fire Be able to follow the right emergency procedure to contain or extinguish an electrical fire Understand the dangers of using water in electrical fires

8 Commissioned by PAMSA and German Technical Co-Operation National Certificate in Paper & Pulp Manufacturing NQF Level 2 Topic Specification: TE204 Understand electrical fires in the plant Collect Information Use Multi media Self Study Field visits Media search Interview experts Attend demonstration Analyse, plan and make decisions Group Discussions Educational games Case studies List / Tabulate Develop recommendations Execute, test and evaluate Job assignment Make presentation Complete documents Tabulate Complete a test/questionnaire Learning ActivitiesTopic assessment criteria The assessor will observe and confirm that learners: Understand the causes of electrical equipment fires Understand the dangers of using water in electrical fires Are able to select the right fire extinguisher for an electrical fire Are able to follow the right emergency procedure to contain or extinguish an electrical fire Assignment Description WHATWHAT HOW Notional Hours 3 A group or individual exercise of viewing video material and watching a demonstration on fire fighting. Partake in a basic fire extinguisher drill 1.Obtain a copy of the fire fighting procedures and the section of the OHS Act relevant to electrical equipment 2.List the causes for equipment fires as well as the dangers of using water on electrical fires 3.Partake in an exercise where different fire extinguishers are demonstrated and learners are given the opportunity to partake in this exercise
