 Standardization Requirements for Cloud Services Report published, based on the outcome of the ETSI workshop on “Grids, Clouds and Service Infrastructures”, December 2009.  Specialist Task Force on ICT GRID Technologies Interoperability and Standardization STF recently completed, several reports published.  Grid Component Model Series of specifications addressing deployment of applications to heterogeneous Grid computing environments. Highlight of Current Activities (1) 2

Strategic Direction (1)  Address issues associated with the convergence between IT (Information Technology) and Telecommunications. The focus is on scenarios where connectivity goes beyond the local network. This includes not only Grid computing but also the emerging commercial trend towards Cloud computing which places particular emphasis on ubiquitous network access to scalable computing and storage resources. 3

Strategic Direction (2)  Complement existing activities in ETSI and other standards development organisations.  TC CLOUD aims to fulfil a specific role as a forum in which to develop consensus within the telecommunications sector which can then be represented in other bodies. 4

Challenges  Current standardization activities related to Cloud Services tend to focus on fairly low-level technology (e.g. server virtualisation, datacentre management) Wide area network connectivity is acknowledged as a defining characteristic of cloud (implicitly assuming Internet) Cloud computing infrastructure is generally based on proprietary offerings from a few major players, limiting portability and interoperability Perspective of service providers/telecommunications operators is largely unaddressed 5

Next Steps/Actions  Clarify specific requirements for cloud standardization which will help realize the full potential of cloud services, with particular emphasis on the interests of service providers, operators, their vendors and customers.  Maintain and develop collaborative relationships with TISPAN and other SDOs, based on specific technical goals. 6
