1  “In 1948, the World Health Organization wanted parameters to measure the functionality of an individual. The first three identified parameters include the physical, the social, and the mental constructs. Later, the emotional, spiritual, and environmental dimensions were added to the list.”

3  Health: a dynamic, ever-changing process of achieving individual potential in each of the following dimensions  Wellness: the achievement of the highest level of health in each dimension

4  Proper nutrition  Exercise  Avoidance of harmful habits, such as smoking or alcohol abuse.  Annual check ups at the doctor

5  Group Work  What are the characteristics of your assigned dimension  Provide a traditional, preventative, and wellness approach example

6  Expressing emotions in a healthy way  Form healthy relationships with others  Learn to control emotions like sadness, anger, or frustration.  Find healthy outlets to deal and express your emotions

7  Having a purpose in life and feeling that life is meaningful  Morals  Ethics  Values/Beliefs

8  Maintain healthy relationships  Try to learn ways to relate well with others such as, family members, coworkers, or friends.  Practice communication skills

9  A healthier planet leads to healthier inhabitants  Protect yourself from environmental hazards  Look for ways to help the earth's health  Recycle or reuse items that you can  donate used clothing, cell phones, or old computers to non-profit organizations that can refurbish them, thereby keeping them out of landfills.

10  Keep your mind active with learning, creativity, and problem solving.  Read up on current events each day.  Paint, draw, or build something with your hands.  Take a continuing education course at a local college, or join a book club. Even working a crossword puzzle each day can help to keep the mind active.
