3 TYPES OF SCHOLARSHIPS  Merit-Based  Academics  Special talents  Athletic  Community service  Need-Based  Based on financial need  Different needs based scholarships will have differing levels of income and financial requirements as to what constitutes “financial need.”  FAFSA is the document that shows financial need

4  Be as well rounded as possible  Scholarship committees look at:  GPA  Honors, AP & CE classes  ACT, SAT I, and SAT II scores  Involvement in clubs, activities, athletics, and community  Work  Family responsibilities HOW CAN I GET MORE?

5  Largest scholarships come from the colleges themselves  Be sure to request the scholarship/financial aid applications when you apply  Most applications for all types of scholarships are found on the web  Each school has a specific way to apply  What sets you apart from other outstanding seniors? WHERE DO I START?

6 REGENT’S SCHOLARSHIP Base Award = $1000 one-time payment Complete the Utah Scholars Core Courses CUM GPA 3.0 No individual grade lower than a “C” in the required core courses. ACT Score Reported “P” and “I” grades are not accepted US Citizen No criminal record Enroll full-time at an eligible Utah institution of higher education Fall semester. Exemplary Award = $1250 per semester Must meet the Base Award Requirements CUM GPA 3.5 No individual grade lower than a “B” in the required core courses. Have an ACT score of 26  Students apply for the Regents’ Scholarship by February 1 of their senior year of high school. It is the student’s responsibility to understand the requirements of the scholarship. Students apply for the Regent’s scholarship by Feb. 1 st of their senior year of high school.

30 Grants are awarded to students based on financial need. Like scholarships, grants don’t have to be paid back. The U.S. department of Education uses the information reported in the FAFSA to determine your eligibility. GRANTS

31 Loans are a form of financial aid that must be repaid. The interest rates on federal student loans are generally low. When considering a loan, you need to read the terms of the agreement carefully. Be wise about the amount of money you borrow ! LOANS

32 Work study allows eligible students to earn money through a part-time job. The financial aid or student employment office at your college can help you find a work study job. WORK STUDY
