7 LAST RITES  Final blessing for sick and dying

8 HENRY IV POSITION  He wanted to stay in power Put his friends in high positions in the church  He appointed Pope through Divine Right (being chosen by God to be King)

9 LAY INVESTITURE  Def: The ability of the King to appoint the office of the Pope in the church

10 POPE GREGORY VII POSITION  Church was getting more and more corrupt (being dishonest and immoral)  People were slowly turning on the church  Pope Gregory VII wanted to change this view
