2  Utensils- small kitchen tools  Mixing Utensils o Mixing bowls- hold ingredients that you mix o Pastry blenders- cut shortening into flour for piecrusts and biscuits o Wire whisks- beating and blending o Mixing spoons- used to combine ingredients o Plastic or rubber scraper- used to scrape bowls or mix ingredients o Sifters- sift and mix dry ingredients together o Rotary beaters- used to beat eggs and mix thin batters  Measuring Utensils o Dry measuring cups (1/4 c, 1/3 c, ½ c, 1 c) o Liquid measuring cups (4 cups, 2 cups, and 1 cup- have mL on them) o Measuring spoons ( ¼ tsp. ½ tsp. 1 tsp and 1 tablespoon) o Good to be dishwasher and microwave safe

3  Cutting and Chopping Utensils o Pairing knives- good for peeling fruits and vegetables o Utility knives- all purpose knives for cutting and slicing foods o Chef’s knives- cutting, mincing, and dicing o Bread knives- slicing bread or baked goods

6  Toaster- holds slices of bread  Blender- push-button speed control for mixing and chopping  Hand-held mixer- used for whipping ingredients  Food processer- cutting and mixing tasks ( different blades and disks)  Electric skillet- fry, roast, simmer, bake; temp. on handle to regulate cooking  Before buying a small appliance, find out how often you will use it and if it is worth the cost.  Comparison shop-brands, safety features, warranties Look for the UL- (Underwriters Laboratories) lets you know it is safe to use  Some are immersible- safe to put underwater ( electrical unit is sealed so no water can enter)If you don’t see that term, do not stick the appliance in water
