2  Calories: A unit to measure energy in foods.  Carbohydrates: Molecules in food that provide energy.  Complex Carbohydrates: Provides long-lasting energy and includes starches and fiber.  Fat: A source of energy in food. It is listed on food labels as total fat, saturated fat, and trans fats.  Total fat: sum of all types of fat in food  Saturated: solid at room temp and from animals  Trans: created by processing/cooking at high temps. Vocabulary Review

3  Nutrient: A substance or ingredient that can be used for energy, growth, and building tissue.  Saturated Fat: Found in dairy, meat & poultry. Eating more than 10% of total calories may increase risk of heart disease and high blood pressure.  Sodium: (Salt) Element necessary for the maintenance of normal fluid balance. Consuming more than recommended 2,300 mg daily can increase risk of high blood pressure and kidney problems. Vocabulary Review

Why?  How/why did percentages change for males/females for calories and total fat?  Which was more helpful- reading the quantity or completing the percentage calculations?
