1 1 Migration of Business Objects XI from R2 to R3 July 1, 2009 Office of the Chief Financial Officer Fiscal Management Information System Team This presentation is not intended as Business Objects training. It is for current users of Business Objects XI, Release 2.

2 2 Changes are coming to Business Objects This presentation explains: The What, When, and Why of the changes How those changes impact the user Differences between the old version and the new version How your input will help this project succeed

3 3 What, When, and Why WHAT: The current version is Business Objects XI Release 2 FMIS 4.0 is being upgraded to a newer version called Business Objects XI Release 3 In the rest of this presentation, the abbreviations “R2” and “R3” will be used

4 4 What, When, and Why WHEN: The release date is July 27 On that date, R2 will no longer be available

5 5 What, When, and Why WHEN: R3 is available now in FMIS Test (FMIST) for user acceptance testing

6 6 What, When, and Why WHY: R2 has software bugs which were corrected in R3 Software was enhanced with additional functions that do not exist in R2

7 7 In short, the FMIS Team needs you … …to conduct user acceptance testing!

8 8 Schedule of Testing R3 is available in FMIST for testing from now through Friday, July 17 Send comments or results of testing to fmissupport@dot.gov fmissupport@dot.gov R3 replaces R2 on July 27

12 12 Old Release Welcome Page: The newer Welcome Page has fewer default toolbars.

13 13 Old Release Welcome Page: Properties, Move, Copy, and Delete icons disappear in new release.

14 14 Old Release Welcome Page: “My Folders” is renamed “My Favorites.”

18 18 Old Release Document Details Panel Several changes have been made to the Document Details panel (which displays the list of Business Objects reports). Changes include…

19 19 New Release Document Details Panel The layout of the reports listing has been changed from form style to tabular format.

20 20 New Release Document Details Panel By default, only partial report descriptions will be displayed on the screen. To view the full report description, click on the report title and then select “Actions”  “Properties.”

21 21 New Release Document Details Panel Note that the hyperlinks displayed below each report title in R2 (Properties, View, Modify, Schedule, History) have now been moved under ‘Actions’ menu item in R3.

23 23 Creating a New BO XI Report

24 24 New Release Welcome Page Click “New” > “Web Intelligence Document” to get the list of Universes.

25 25 New > Web Intelligence Document After clicking on “Web Intelligence Document,” the list of Universes appears.

26 26 New > Web Intelligence Document Unlike the old version, a description of each Universe appears next to the name, helping the user to select the proper Universe with which to build a report.

27 27 New > Web Intelligence Document Click on the title of the Universe (not the description) to launch the New Document panel to build the report….

29 29 The New “New Document” Panel In R3, the icons used to represent a Universe name, Class or sub-Class name, dimension Object and measure Object have been changed.

31 31 The New “Tool Tip” Feature A Tool Tip feature has been added by which the user can point the mouse over any Object to display information such as the description, data type, etc.

34 34 The Old “Result Objects” Panel In the older release, the full names of the selected Objects are not displayed when the Object names are more than 10 characters.

37 37 The Old “Query Filters” Panel The radio buttons “Prompt” and “Filter” do not appear anymore.

50 50 New R3 Document Scheduling Window Under the new layout, the options for scheduling appear as a separate panel on the left.

52 52 Non–functioning Buttons Since Business Objects is an off-the-shelf software package, it has certain functions which the FHWA has chosen not to activate. The “Encyclopedia” button under “Open” and the “Dashboards” button are both non-functional.
