12. SECURITY COUNCIL Responsible for international peace & security 15 members: five permanent and ten non-permanent China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom & the United States

13. SECURITY COUNCIL CONTINUED The other 10 members of the security council are elected by the General Assembly Each council member has one vote. The five permanent members have VETO power Decisions require nine yes votes & zero veto votes

14. ECONOMIC & SOCIAL COUNCIL 54 members elected by the General Assembly Economic issues (trade, transport, industrialization) and social issues It promotes respect for human rights & freedom for all

16. INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE The judicial branch of the UN Voluntary country disputes (not individual) 15 judges elected by the General Assembly & Security Council Each Judge serves 9 years Court headquarters at The Hague, in the Netherlands
