Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) What are examples of a turning point (climax) in a person’s life? Explain. 2.) What can you predict will be the climax of Fences? Explain. *Show any owed HW. Objective: Students will be able to analyze the climax (turning point) Act 2, Scene 1 in Fences.

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 Aim: How can we analyze the climax (turning point) revealed in Act 2, Scene 1 of Fences? Objective:: Students will be able to analyze the climax (turning point) in Act 2, Scene 1 in Fences. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Read-Aloud/Analysis: Finish reading Act 2, Scene 1—pp (roles: Troy, Rose, Bono, Gabriel and Stage Directions). Take notes on textual evidence of the characters experiencing fences (divisions/barriers) and pursuing the American Dream. How is Bono insightful about Troy’s relationships with Rose and Alberta? How can you contrast the purpose of a fence, according to the different perspectives of Rose and Troy? How does Troy’s revelation to Rose create a fence between them? How does Troy explain this revelation that he’s going to be a father? How does Rose react to this revelation? What is Rose’s American Dream and how does it differ from her dream to be with Troy? How does Cory break down the fence between him and Troy at the end of the scene? D.) Q & A/Reflections: How do you feel about Troy’s revelation? Did you expect this revelation? What can you predict will happen in the next scene?
