2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of April 23, 2018 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Main Topic We will finish up identifying the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text. We will begin comparing and contrasting informational text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the April writing calendar Math IXL Practice math facts Math: Addition and Subtraction We will learn how to add and subtract within 1,000 using concrete models or drawings, strategies based on pace value and relationship between addition and subtraction. We will also learn how to explain why addition and subtraction strategies work. Spelling Choose an activity from the April challenge board Choose an activity from the April Speller’s Choice activity sheet-enough, easy, upon Writing: Narratives We will write narrative in which we recount a well-elaborated event or short sequence of events, include details to describe actions, thoughts, and feelings, use temporal words, and provide a sense of closure. Reading Read an informational text for 30 minutes Raz-kids Review life cycle of a plant study guide ( on back of newsletter) Science/SS/Health: Life Cycles We will finish up the life cycle unit by determining the sequence of the life cycle of four common animals (mammal, bird, amphibian, insect) and the life cycle a plant from seed to maturity by recording changes over a period time. Science/Social Studies Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Vowel Teams We will review reading the following vowel teams: oo, oe, ou, ey, Context Clues We will use sentence level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
