WHY SHOULD YOU AS A TEENAGER BE CONCERNED ABOUT STAYING HEALTHY OR BECOMING HEALTHIER THAN YOU ARE NOW? In your own words, in your notes, write down what health means to you.

Why worry about health? It is easier to prevent illness than to cure it. It takes more time, money and effort to treat or cure illness than to prevent it. Making unhealthy choices now can lead to serious, incurable health problems, now and in the future.

INTERESTING Depressed people at the Montreal Heart Health Institute were found less likely to recover. Depressed people have lower levels of serotonin, the chemical that helps prevent blood clots.

Socially isolated people have more illnesses that those people with good social relationships. Support from family and friends can improve resistance to disease and recovery from illness.

Stress can weaken the immune system, raise blood pressure and lead to heart attack and stroke.

III. MAINTAINING A BALANCE Each side of your triangle is equally important to good health. By working to keep the sides balanced, you are on your way toward being a healthy person.

IV. WHAT IS WELLNESS? Wellness in an overall state of well-being, or total health or balanced health over a long period of time Every decision you make can affect you wellness. Healthful snack choices contribute to your wellness. doing your homework, or riding your bike are healthy ways to spend your time.

Is your triangle balanced or unbalanced? What changes could you make in your everyday life to make your triangle more balanced?
