Candragupta Maurya- conquered northern part of India and is the founder Of the Mauryan Empire. Influenced Alexander the Great. Mercenaries- hired soldiers 6,000,000 soldiers Spies

Fierce warrior who extended the kingdom Converted to Buddhism and became nonviolent

Edicts- laws Sent missionaries to spread Buddhism Died in 233BC and empire ended soon after Legacy, built roads, planted shade trees, and rest house for travelers

Candra Gupta I- brought Hinduism back building many temples, Promoted Hindu writings, and established a university 375BC Candra Gupta II- reached its peak during his rule, Art and literature flourished. Gupta the II kept a strict social order to strengthen his rule. Women’s rights were limited and strict. By the late 400s BC the kingdom began to have trouble and were invaded by the Huns from Central Asia. By mid 500BC the kingdom was split
