Ms. Taylor 2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of March 5, 2018 A Peek at Our Week Reading: Point of View We will learn how to acknowledge differences in the points of views of characters, including by speaking in a different voice for each character when reading dialogue aloud. WEEKLY HOMEWORK Writing Choose a writing prompt from the March writing calendar Spend time editing/ revising once you have finished your piece Math: 3 Digit Addition and Subtraction We will learn how to add and subtract within 1,000 using strategies and how to mentally add or subtract 10 or 100 to a given number 100–900. Math IXL Practice adding and subtracting 3 digit numbers and adding/ subtracting 10 or 100 mentally to any given number Writing: Opinion Writing We will continue to practice writing an opinion piece by introducing the topic, stating an opinion, supplying reasons that support the opinion, using linking words and providing a closing statement. Spelling Choose an activity from the March Speller’s Choice activity sheet S.O.S for the weekly words – here, right, sometimes Reading Read aloud for 20 minutes Raz Kids Science: Stars We will learn how to compare and contrast our sun (a star) with other stars by using physical attributes of size, brightness. S.S./ Science Make a Venn Diagram at home to compare and contrast stars and the sun. Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Silent Letter Combinations We will learn the following silent letter combination sounds: kn, wr, gn, mb, lk, mn, gh Ex: write, knee, lamb, half, knock, wrist, gnat, laugh, rough Adjectives and Adverbs We will learn how to use and identify adjectives and adverbs, and choose between them depending on what is to be modified.
