2nd Grade Ms. Taylor’s Sailors Week of March 12, 2018 A Peek at Our Week WEEKLY HOMEWORK Reading: Ask and Answer Questions We will learn how to ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, where, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in a text. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the March writing calendar Spend time editing/ revising once you have finished your piece Math: Place Value We will review how to read and write numbers to 1,000 using base ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. We will also review skip counting by 5’s, 10’s, 100’s, and comparing 3 digit numbers using the <, >, and = symbols. Math IXL Greg Tang math website – games – funny numbers – base ten do addition and subtraction Writing: Opinion Writing We will edit and revise our writing pieces by using a checklist to ensure we have included the following: introducing the topic, stating an opinion, supplying reasons that support the opinion, using linking words and providing a closing statement. Spelling Choose an activity from the March Speller’s Choice activity sheet S.O.S for the weekly words – these, some, before Reading Read aloud for 20 minutes and practice asking and answering questions before, during, and after reading Raz Kids Science: Jimmy Carter We will learn how Jimmy Carter adapted and was influenced by his environment, his contributions in GA history, and his positive character traits. S.S./ Science Jimmy Carter reading passage and questions (on the back of the newsletter) Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling/ Reading Rule Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Prefixes We will learn the following prefixes and how they can change the meaning of a base word. un-, re-, dis-, pre-, in- Shades of Meaning We will learn how to distinguish shades of meaning among closely related verbs (toss, throw, hurl) and adjectives (thin, slender, skinny) March 14 – Early Release Day March 26 – Wheel Wise In House Field Trip – Wear your blue class t-shirts April 2-6 – Spring Break – No School Weekly Words these, some, before
