3 LOCATION ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
How does location affect how people make money? How might your lifestyle change if you lived in another climate zone? Polar zones or tropical climates? 3. How does our state’s/city’s location affect the jobs people have? The clothing we wear and the foods we eat?

4 Culture The culture of a society is the product of the religion, beliefs, customs, traditions, and government of that society. K, 1, 6, 7, WH, USH, WG 4

What are the elements of culture? 2. How would you describe your culture

6 Production, Distribution, Consumption
The production, distribution, and consumption of goods/services produced by the society are affected by the location, customs, beliefs, and laws of the society. 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, USH, WG 6

7 PRODUCTION, DISTRIBUTION, AND CONSUMPTION ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
What are the components/parts of an economy? What influences an economy?

8 Human Environment Interaction
Humans, their society, and the environment affect each other. 6, 7, WG 8

9 HUMAN ENVIRONMENT INTERACTION ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
How does a society adapt to its environment? (foods you eat, clothes you wear, jobs, etc.) Why would a society change its environment? 3. What are the consequences (positive & negative) of human environment interaction?

10 Time, Change, Continuity
While change occurs over time, there is continuity to the basic structure of a society. K, 1, 2, 6, 7, WH 10

11 TIME, CHANGE, & CONTINUITY ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
What in you life has changed, but yet you have remained the same? How can a society/country change but basic components remain the same over a period of time? 3. Why might a society remain the same even if there is change over time?

12 Movement/ Migration The movement or migration of people and ideas affects all societies involved. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, WH, USH 12

13 MOVEMENT/MIGRATION ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
Why do people move? Have you ever moved? What causes large groups of people to migrate? 3. How can society be affected by people moving from place to place?

14 Conflict & Change When there is conflict between or within societies, change is the result. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, WH, USH, WG 14

15 CONFLICT AND CHANGE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
When you have conflicts with your friends, does it change your friendship? If so, how? What conflict have you experienced in your life and what change occurred? Why is there change when you have conflict between or within societies? 4. Does change always follow conflict?

16 Governance As a society increases in complexity and interacts with other societies, the complexity of the government also increases. 6, 7, WH 16

17 GOVERNANCE ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:
In what way do the rules in sports get more complex at different levels (midget football to the NFL) 2. How has our society changed as government has become more complex? 3. How does government react when complex societies interact or combine?
