1 Blackboard Tutorial (Student)
Parts of Blackboard This tutorial will cover some parts of Blackboard that may prove useful in successfully passing your courses. To pause or rewind, use the controls below. To read along, click Script. Get started at online.pmi.edu

2 Click to see your grades This is the MyPMI tab
Click to change your password When you sign in, typically, you’ll first see this screen. The My PMI tab is located at the top left-hand corner of Blackboard. It is also known as the Home Page. In the My Courses box, you can access your courses in which you are enrolled. Your past courses will also be shown here. In the Tools box, you can check for new announcements in any of your courses or send an . My Grades allows you to check your grades in any course you’re currently taking. Also, if you ever need to reset your password, click on Personal Information.

(past and present) You can also access your courses by clicking the Courses tab. The Courses tab is located at the top left-hand corner of Blackboard next to the My PMI tab.    

4 Instructors may post very important messages to
the class When you click on your course, it always takes you to the Announcements page. Notice that a link to the Announcements button is at the top of the blue menu on the left. Pay close attention to any new announcements because this is where instructors may post important messages to the class.

5 Contains course-specific information
The Course Syllabus button is the next button in the menu. It is important that you read the syllabus at the beginning of each course. It contains information such as: Prerequisites, Textbook requirements, Grading scale, and so forth. Please note that in every online course, the first two assigned reading chapters can be found here in the Course Syllabus. The Course Syllabus contains information such as: Prerequisites Required textbook Grading scale 1st two chapters

6 Discussion Board Assignments
Reading Assignments Contains everything you need to complete the course Use the Student Course Map to pace yourself Homework Assignments Discussion Board Assignments Click the hyperlink to access the lesson Tests or Quizzes Surveys The Course Content button is the next button in the menu. It contains everything you need to complete your course. Your course is divided into lessons. And each lesson may contain: Reading assignments, Homework assignments, Discussion board assignments, Tests or quizzes Surveys, and Links to helpful videos. You will want to pay special attention to the Student Course Map. It’s highly recommended that you print out the student map, fill in the due dates, and post it on your fridge or some other place that you will see on a daily basis. This will help you pace yourself in your courses--what you need to read, what you need to turn in, and when you need to turn it in. Helpful Videos

7 Contains links to course-related
web sites The Web Resources button is the next button in the menu. It contains hyperlinks to course-related websites that complement the course material. The Web Resources for this English Composition class include a dictionary and a video on how to write papers in the proper format.  

8 Contains links to miscellaneous tools
The Tools button is the next button in the menu. I’ll only describe the items you’ll use most commonly.  You can use the Groups feature to create a study group. If you click on the Calendar and select the Month view, you can see any due dates posted by the instructor. My Grades is where you can view your grades for every graded evaluation in that class. Blackboard Help can help you learn how to use a particular feature in Blackboard. Try finding your answers here before contacting the Help Desk. The Tools area also contains links to various communication tools such as a link to the classroom Discussion Board and the ability to send an to your instructor or classmates.

Write down your instructor’s contact info Contains your instructor’s profile The Instructor button is the next button in the menu. This page contains the course instructor's bio and contact information. Feel free to contact your instructor with questions or concerns you may have regarding the course. You may want to write your instructor’s information down in case you cannot access the internet.

10 Also known as eGlobal library
Ask an Online Librarian! Also known as eGlobal library The Library contains: Articles Books Research support Program Guides The Library button is the next button in the menu. Also known as the eGlobal Library, this is the official online library of Pima Medical Institute. It contains: Articles, Books, Research support, and Guides. If you’re having trouble writing a bibliography for your assignment or maybe you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to ask the online librarian!

The MyPMI mail button is the next button in the menu. Clicking this button opens a new window containing the log-in page for your MyPMI account.

h Be specific Be accurate Be patient Available 7 days a week The Help Desk button is the next button in the menu. It will open in a new window with links to some video tutorials about Blackboard, your PMI Mail, and the PMI Portal. If your question is not answered here, you can click this link to fill out a Help Desk form. When you fill out this form, please be as specific as possible with your issue and make sure that your address is spelled correctly. Please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

13 Get to know your classmates
To create a post, click Reply Get to know your classmates Hi my name is… Does anyone know… The Student Lounge button is the next button in the menu. The Student Lounge is a forum on the Discussion Board where students in the course may communicate with one another about topics that may or may not be related to the course. To create a post, click on the Student Lounge and then click Reply. I do! Me, too!
