1 Angiosperms

2 Why a Flower?

3 A flower is made up of rings
The outermost ring is made of sepals The next ring inside of the sepal are the petals Inside the petals are a ring of stamen And last, in the CENTER of the flower is the pistil

4 The Reproductive Structure of Flowering Plants:
Perianth Petal: Corolla Sepal:Calyx

5 Flower Anatomy Flowers contain the reproductive parts of angiosperms.
When a flower is still a bud, it is enclosed by leaf-like structures called sepals These structures help protect the flower. .

6 Flower Anatomy The petals attract pollinating insects with
their bright color and attractive scent . The coloration may extend into the ultraviolet, which is visible to the compound eyes of insects, but not to the eyes of birds.

7 Petals The patterns on the inside of the petals often act as
“landing strips” for insects. It helps guide insects to the male and female reproductive structures within the flower

8 Flower Anatomy  The petals also surround the reproductive organs.
The stamen has two parts. filament . anther

9 The stamen is made of two parts the Anther and the Filament.
The Parts of a Stamen The stamen is made of two parts the Anther and the Filament. Filament Anther The Filament is a stalk like structure that holds up the Anther. The Anther produces the pollen cells.

10 Flower Anatomy In the center of the flower are
the pistils (also known as the carpel)

11 Flower Anatomy The pistils are the female organs of the flower.
The stigma is at the very top of the pistil. A sugary fluid makes the stigma sticky, and keeps the pollen from falling off or blowing away.

12 Flower Anatomy The pistils of most flowers have three parts.
At the base of the flower is the hollow ovary, which contains the egg cells (ovule) A slender tube, called the style, connects the stigma to the ovary. Fertilization takes place in the ovary.

13 ijhpFlower Anatomy fertilization carpel structure

14 Fruit and Seed Formation
A fruit develops from an ovary. A seed develops from an ovule.

15 Flower Structure Variation
A flower having sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils is complete; if a flower is lacking one or more of these whorls, it is said to be incomplete. complete incomplete no stamens present = incomplete

16 Pollen Dispersal by Animals
Bees, Beetles, Bats, Birds, Butterflies, etc…
