3 The Enlightenment was a period during the 1700s when people rejected traditional ideas and supported a belief in human reason.

4 Philosophers of the Enlightenment were interested in changing people’s relationship with their government. VS.

5 They believed that government decisions should be based on laws of nature and reason.
