Grace Fellowship Church www.GraceDoctrine.org
Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Sunday February 10, 2008 Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “ ” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check for more information.

1 John 4:4; "You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."

1 John Series 1 John 4:2-3 Jesus Christ in Hypostatic Union, Pt 2

1 John 4:2, “… that Jesus has come in the flesh…”

Rom 9:5, “And from whom is the Christ in so far as the flesh is concerned, who is God sovereign over all.”

1 Tim 3:16, “And by common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, was vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up into glory.”

Heb 2:14, “Therefore, since children share blood and flesh, He also partook of the same in order that through death, He might render powerless Satan who had the power of death.”

Three declarations by John of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

1) 1 John 4:2, “coming” is in the Perfect tense stating the completion of the past event with results that continue, "HE HAS COME".

2) In 1 John 5:6, "is (the one) who came".

a) "Is" - EIMI - Historical Present Tense that views the past incarnation and First Advent with the vividness of a present occurrence.

b) “Who came” - ERCHOMAI - Constative Aorist contemplates the First Advent in its entirety but emphasizes the person and the work of Christ on the Cross. "HE CAME".

c) “By water and blood” A literal phase stating the fact of the First Advent of Christ (water) with emphasis on the Cross (blood).

Jesus Christ the eternal Son of God possessed a true human body during the incarnation. John 19:34, proves the issue in the somatic (physical) death.

John refutes the great attack on Christianity which was Gnosticism, rejecting the humanity of Christ.

3) In 2 John 7, “coming” is a Participle in the Historical Present stating the fact of occurrence as if the person where presently there.

He is stating the fact of Christ's physical presence in the past which he witnessed, and is now being denied by the deceivers, "IS COME".

Principle: By stating “He has come”, “He came”, and “Is come”, John is refuting the deceiving spirits that deny the facts concerning the person and coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our Lord is telling us that our spiritual life must include discernment through analysis which constitutes thought testing.

If you cannot properly analyze, you can not make proper application
If you cannot properly analyze, you can not make proper application. You can only apply correctly what you understand correctly.

The purpose of discernment or analysis is to qualify the eloquent and persuasive teacher as to whether they are teaching the truth or not.

The testing agent is the human mind, your volition, in concentration inside God's Power System.

To fulfill the mandate you must possess Bible doctrine in your soul, have established correct norms and standards, and priorities that reflect your daily relationship with God.
