3 Fall 2007 Retake Administration Schedule
Test Administration Schedule Date Test Testing Time October 2–5 Reading Untimed Mathematics Reading and Mathematics Make-Up Testing October Secure Materials Due into District Office S L I D E 3

4 What’s New for the Fall 2007 Retake
Possession of any electronic device that reproduces, transmits, calculates, or records IS cause for invalidation “Possession” is defined as “within arm’s reach,” even if the electronic device is not visible Students should not have cell phones in their pockets, clipped to their belts, at their desks, or anywhere they can be easily accessed during testing The scripts now include revised instructions for using zipper pull tabs on test and answer books Now a formal rule: Test Administrators should not administer the FCAT to their relatives S L I D E 4

5 What’s New for the Fall 2007 Retake (cont.)
A new form to report missing materials and breaches of administration procedures is now in effect This new form can be found at (click on 2007 Fall FCAT) The new Large Print and Braille Answer Document Return Summary should now be used for returning LP and BR materials A blank Large Print and Braille Answer Document Return Summary can be found at (click on 2007 Fall FCAT) S L I D E 5

6 Reminders for the Fall 2007 Retake
The computer-based Retake test has a separate manual that must be used when administering the computer-based test, and test administrators must attend a separate training session for the computer-based administration When verifying student information, use the PreID Roster, which includes the complete Social Security Number or Florida Student Number for each student that has been preidentified FIVE elements MUST be correct on a student PreID label: Student last name Student ID number District number School number Grade level S L I D E 6

7 Reminders for the Fall 2007 Retake (cont.)
Schools must maintain an FCAT Security Log for each testing room ALL comment forms will be available only ONLINE S L I D E 7

8 Students to Be Tested Grades 11 through 13 regular and adult high school students who have not passed both parts of the FCAT required for graduation with a standard diploma Certificate of Completion students Three-year graduation program students (who have not passed both parts of the FCAT required for graduation with a standard diploma) in their third year in high school S L I D E 8

9 Students NOT Allowed to Participate in Retake
Home Education Program students Students enrolled in private schools through the McKay or Corporate Tax Credit Scholarship Programs Students enrolled in grade levels below Grade 10 S L I D E 9

10 Steps for Verifying Student Information and Affixing a PreID Label
Verify that the student is still enrolled and will be tested Verify the information on the PreID Roster against the school’s student information database The PreID Roster includes each student’s complete Social Security Number or Florida Student Number Because the complete Social Security Number is not printed on the label, the PreID Roster must be used to verify student information (It is not necessary to check both the labels and the Roster because the same file is used to create the Roster is also used to create the labels) If the student last name, ID number, district number, school number, OR grade level is INCORRECT, do NOT use the corresponding label S L I D E 10

11 Steps for Verifying Student Information and Affixing a PreID Label (cont.)
Carefully place the label in the lower left corner of the student grid sheet in the box that reads PLACE STUDENT LABEL HERE Grid any missing information on the student grid sheet (Incorrect information CANNOT be corrected this way) S L I D E 11

12 Sample Student Label Do not remove labels once they have been affixed, and do not place a label over another label. S L I D E 12

17 Test Invalidation Policies and Procedures
The DNS Bubble MUST be gridded on a USED document if: The document is defective A student last name, ID number, district number, school number, OR grade level on a label is INCORRECT A label has been placed over another label The student is caught cheating or is disruptive during testing (discuss with school coordinator and site administrator before a final invalidation decision is made) Beginning with this administration, possession of any electronic device that reproduces, transmits, calculates, or records will be cause for invalidation. S L I D E 17

18 Test Invalidation Policies and Procedures (cont.)
The DNS Bubble MAY be gridded on a USED document if: A student becomes ill OR is not allowed the correct amount of time to finish the test Consideration: Was the student provided adequate time to respond completely to the test items? Yes – submit the document for scoring No – invalidate the test and return it with the NOT TO BE SCORED materials If the validity of the test has not been compromised, you may return the student to the testing room during the same school day to continue testing. It is not necessary to invalidate UNUSED documents as long as they are packaged with the NOT TO BE SCORED materials. S L I D E 18

19 General Guidelines for School Coordinators
Inventory contents of boxes within 24 hours of receipt and report missing materials immediately Request additional materials, as necessary Ensure that an adequate supply of FCAT calculators is available Communicate the process for collecting required administration information (Slide 21) Maintain a record of the security numbers of the secure test materials you receive from the district coordinator Assign Test Group Codes Assign proctors (Slide 15) Explain the FCAT Security Log (Slide 16) Train test administrators and proctors Make sure that accommodations have been arranged Provide appropriate test settings (Slide 20) S L I D E 19

20 General Guidelines (Before Testing)

22 Prepare the Room for Testing
Use classrooms whenever possible Avoid testing in the cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, or library Remove all unauthorized visual aids Ensure that students are not facing each other when seated Make sure that students are not in seating (stadium or staggered) that allows them to easily view other students’ answers Make sure that there is sufficient space (at least three feet) between students Make sure that each room is free of distractions and has: Comfortable seating Good lighting Adequate ventilation S L I D E 22

23 Required Administration Information
As directed by the district coordinator, schools must maintain the following information for each testing room: Students assigned to the room (provide Student Name and Student ID Number) Attendance Information – Present, Present but Invalidated, Absent, Withdrawn Test Group Code Unique Security Number of the Test and Answer Book Assigned to Each Student S L I D E 23

24 Sample Security Checklist
S L I D E 24

25 General Guidelines (During Testing)
If you have concerns that a student may be unable to complete a test (e.g., student is sick), contact your school coordinator so that he or she can decide how to proceed If test and answer books are preidentified, make sure that each student receives the book with his or her name on it Proceed to the appropriate grid sheet script if school personnel have NOT gridded or verified student information When you have determined that student information is complete and correct, return to the appropriate subject-area script Read appropriate scripts verbatim (make necessary modifications to the scripts only when testing students with permissible accommodations) Pay attention to information between SAY boxes in the scripts S L I D E 25

26 Test Supervision Responsibilities
During testing, ensure that students: Clear their desks of all materials except the appropriate test materials Use only No. 2 pencils Do not have books, notes, scratch paper, or electronic devices of any kind (including, but not limited to, cell phones, pagers, electronic games) during testing, even if they do not use them Do not disturb others Work independently S L I D E 26

27 Test Supervision Responsibilities (cont.)
YOU MUST NOT: Talk with students about any test item Help students answer any test item Check through test and answer books and return them to students Discuss test items or answers with students even after all test materials have been returned and testing has been completed S L I D E 27

28 Script Reminders How to break the zipper pull tab on the test and answer book: Hold the test and answer book down with one hand With the other hand, gently grasp the top of the zipper pull tab Pull OUT and DOWN Do not attempt to remove half-oval pieces Reminders for students: If a student draws a line or an X through an answer, the line must NOT extend into a bubble, or the stray mark could be scanned as the answer If a student marks in two or more bubbles, the response will be recorded as a WRONG answer If a student circles answers instead of gridding the bubbles, the answers will NOT be scored S L I D E 28
