1 6th Grade Science Mrs. Boska Classroom Procedures

2 Why Procedures? Without procedures, students do not know what is expected of them. Procedures facilitate efficiency. Human Nature is to have procedures.

3 The Bell Rings Walk into the room BEFORE the bell rings and when you are ready to work/learn Have your PANTS - Sharpen pencils if needed Go directly to YOUR seat (get any absent work if needed). Do not touch any table supplies until directed Get out any homework Begin warm-up

4 Ready for Class? Do you have...
P encil? Writing utensils (pencils, erasers, highlighter, pencil sharpener)? A genda? N otebook - green T extbook- not in science S ilent reading material Cell phone use in classroom REQUIRES prior teacher permission – see agenda board

5 Science Binder/Folder
Green is the color for science. You may have a binder OR folder & notebook. ONLY use the binder/folder for science work. Do NOT tear pages out of the notebook Use the notebook pages in order. Keep all papers until you are told to take them out – we use it for a study guide. Write your name on your supplies

6 Agenda Use Fill out each week- Monday Highlight HW Update as needed

7 I’m Late for Class Walk in the room quietly and quietly acknowledge Mrs. Boska. Have a pass if the tardy is to be excused. You will be marked tardy without a pass. 3 tardies in 1 class in 1 quarter will result in a detention.

8 Drills Fire – Siren & lights Walk in line OUTSIDE in FRONT of school
Tornado – Announcement Take shelter in our room where other classes will join us Intruder – Announcement Depends on level

9 Getting out of Your Seat
Sharpening pencils Tissues Taking care of trash/recycling Wandering around the room Getting supplies Requesting a pass (bathroom, locker, etc) I’m sick….

10 Voice Levels Group work – table talk is allowed and should be kept at shoulder volume. Independent work – minimal talking kept at whisper level. Assessments – no talking or wandering around room. Keep eyes on your own work. Quiet Signals

11 Class Work & Group Work Participate - Raise your hand to share.
Take notes. When you hear the attention signal - stop what you are doing and listen for directions.

12 Completing Assignments
Read the directions. Use pencil or pen. Write legibly. Use the proper paper set-up. Double check your answers. Use your binder or folder to keep your work – don’t shove it anywhere. Label your work (WU, CTIC, CIC, HW).

13 I Need Help in Class Reread your notes and the directions.
Use your textbook or worksheet. Ask your tablemates. Raise your hand or come see the teacher to ask a specific question. Request an Academic Support pass. Attend the after school study table

14 I Finished My Work? Double check your work – put it in your folder if it is NOT to be collected yet. Begin any homework. Silent read. Do work for another class. No napping/No “nothing”

15 I Need Help at Home Attend the after school Study Table
Reread your notes & directions. Look at the Weebly site. Text/phone a friend/neighbor or ask a family member for help. Try Googling it. Mrs Boska with specific question.

16 Turning in Work Papers are due the next day unless stated differently.
Papers are collected by: Passing them down the row or placing it at the center of the table (facing the same direction). Collected individually from students. Incomplete and “No Name” papers will not get graded and will be counted as LATE.

17 I was Absent You may request work through the office if you are gone several days. Check your agenda & the weebly. Make sure you turn in any work collected while you were gone and get any work (including notes) that you missed. Get an Academic Support pass if you need help. You will receive a zero in the gradebook until the work is completed.

18 Grading Daily assignments are typically worth 5 points but sometimes 10. Incomplete work will NOT be graded. If late work is accepted – it will be given a penalty depending on the assignment. Quizzes are typically 25 points & tests 50 points. If Extra Credit is offered – you may not have any missing assignments.

19 Disruptions to the Class
Mrs. Boska will answer the phone in most cases. If I am not available, follow the prompt by the phone and get a detailed message. If a visitor comes into the room – continue working as usual – they may be observing our class.

20 Seating Arrangement The whole class will change seats each quarter.
The students will give Mrs Boska recommendations on where they would like their seat. I may change individual seats for behavior issues or other concerns throughout the quarter.

21 Reasons for Discipline
Behavior for sub Not prepared for class Defacing school property Cursing/Talking back/Disrespect Excessive tardies Cell phone use Bullying Electronics (i.e. cell phones) Cheating/Academic Dishonesty Gum chewing/Candy/Eating in class

22 Possible Consequences
Verbal or nonverbal warning Removed from seat or class Lower citizenship grade Call, , or note home Detention Send to Counseling office Send to Main office

23 Last 5 Minutes Check your agenda. Make sure you turned in any work.
Gather all of your items. Clean up your table & floor. Stand up - Push in your chair. Wait to be dismissed
