3 What is it? Propaganda is a devised set of messages, through words or pictures, aimed at influencing the opinions or behaviors of large numbers of people. It might be aimed to help or hurt a person/people, to influence them, or to benefit the advertiser.

4 Bandwagon Appeal An appeal to the subject to follow the crowd, to join in because others are doing so as well. Sometimes advertisers try to convince their viewers (or readers) that everyone else is doing it, and that they’ll be left out if they don’t.

6 Selective Omission or Card Stacking
An advertiser only presents information that is positive to an idea and omits information that is contrary. Most of the information presented in card stacking is true, but important information is left out.

8 Assertion An enthusiastic or energetic statement presented as a fact, although it is not necessarily true. This occurs any time an advertisers state that their product is the best-without having the evidence to prove it.

11 Loaded Words Using emotionally charged words to produce strong positive or negative feelings in the audience (readers, listeners, viewers) SUCH AS……

12 Name Calling Connecting a person, object, or idea to an image usually considered negative. Attempts to arouse prejudice among the public by labeling the target as something that the public dislikes. OR……….

Connecting a person, object, or idea to generally accepted virtues such as democracy, family values, patriotism, rights, etc. to produce strong positive feelings in the audience (readers, listeners, viewers). Words of praise for a product or person; using nice words like goodness or patriotism.

19 Testimonials Quotations, or endorsements, which attempt to connect a famous or respectable person with a product or item.

22 Either/Or Analyzing and presenting a complex situation as if it has only two sides.
