11 Understanding the Terms: Sex, Gender, and Sexual Orientation
Sex (Gender): male or female biological and physical characteristics Gender Role: socially-constructed roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women. Gender Identity: whether a person sees herself or himself as a male or female Sexual Orientation: to whom a person is attracted romantically and sexually. Respect Differences, Appreciate Diversity Gender role, gender identity, and sexual orientation varies with each individual. It is important to respect differences and appreciate diversity.
