2 We will help you answer these questions:
How will I decide on classes for next year? How will I use the Sherwood Course Bulletin? How will I complete my registration form?

The tools you need to plan for next year’s classes have been given to you today. Check that you have the following: Transcript Sherwood High School Course Bulletin Registration card 9th graders should also have: MCPS Course Bulletin Please contact your counselor if you have questions.

5 Look at your transcript
Take out your transcript -it has “UNOFFICIAL” on it. This has all your high school information. Freshman will not have grades from Sherwood yet. Check with the Counseling Office if you do not have a transcript. Make sure you have everything you need to graduate. Look at the classes you’ve already taken as shown on your transcript. Consider what classes you liked and what other classes you might take. Know what classes you still need by looking at the graduation requirements. Know the graduation requirements. They are on page 6 of the SHS Course Bulletin and the next slide.

9 Consider as you choose your classes
Post-secondary Plans What do you want to do after graduation? Rigor Are you taking the most challenging classes for you? Edison High School Are there programs at Edison that interest you? Ask your counselor about this or go to Thomas Edison HS’s web site.

10 The Academies – More information on page 14 in our Bulletin
We have Four Academies: Arts and Humanities Business and Hospitality Engineering and Technology Science Ask yourself: What are your career goals? Which classes will help you to explore your interests? Which Academy fits with those goals?

All current 9th graders will be choosing an Academy for next year Selection of an Academy is optional for students in other grades

13 Refer to the course recommendations of your current teachers.
Look at the white sticker on the front of the card. If you disagree with a recommendation, discuss this with your parents, teacher, and counselor.

14 Open the card for course information
You take 7 credits a year. (3.5 credits in semester 1 and 3.5 credits in semester 2) You must choose 7 courses for each semester. On your registration card, circle both the COURSE NAME and the COURSE CODE for each class you plan to take. You must select a total of 14 codes

311100 311200 Algebra 1 311110 323110 311210 323210 Algebra 1 with Related Math (Double Period) 320100 320200 Geometry 320300 320400 Geometry, Honors If you look at the Mathematics classes offered you will see something like this. If you want to select Honors Geometry, you would circle the two codes ( and ) and the name of the class (Geometry, Honors.) It’s done on the next slide.

This is how you should circle the classes you want to take.

Look on the back of your card and p. 14 of the Bulletin Academies allow Sherwood students to: Focus on academic interests Develop knowledge and skills needed to excel in college and careers Connect high school course work with college and real world experiences Skip this slide if you do not have Freshmen in your classroom.

Skip this slide if you don’t have freshmen in the class. All Freshman: You Must Designate Your Academy The directions on your card say: STEP 1: Circle a Pathway from one of the four Sherwood Academies. STEP 2: Circle ONE course you will take to start that Pathway. You will want to take this home to discuss your choice with your parents. Skip if you do not have Freshmen in your classroom.

19 Return to the front of the card
Designate Alternate Choices. If you do not have alternate classes designated, your counselor will choose courses for you. You and a parent/guardian must sign the completed form. When you sign, you acknowledge the following: I understand that the selection of teaching staff is based on registration information. I have reviewed the teacher recommendations and the choices my student has made. I understand the selections are considered final.
