Soil wasn’t always fertile so there was a lot of small business like mills, blacksmiths, and sewing. Ship making

4 New England Geography Long harsh winters and bad soil for farming. Families lived mostly in town and others lived on the outskirts.

Iron, saw mills, and mines filled the industry sector. Goods easily shipped out of NY large ports. Large farms that grew cash crops

Ideal climate for large farms that produced cash crops.

8 Southern Colonies Virginia North Carolina South Carolina Georgia
Maryland Virginia North Carolina South Carolina Georgia

9 Southern Colonies Economy
Big crops-big farms (plantations)

10 Southern Colonies Geography
Big Rivers Tidewater area of Virginia = large ports for shipping. Crops would be sent down rivers to ports to be shipped around the world.
