3 New England Colonies Cont. Fishing, shipbuilding, logging, and textiles (making cloth) became their main occupations (jobs)

4 Middle Colonies New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey A mixture of the New England and Southern colonies

5 Middle Colonies Cont. Agriculture (farming) – WHEAT, corn, fruit, cattle, sheep, hogs Manufacturing – cloth, guns, wagons, tools, iron products

6 There were many different nationalities in the Middle Colonies – people from all over the world

7 Southern Colonies Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland The land was great for farming: flat and fertile Crops: tobacco, cotton, rice, indigo

8 Southern Colonies Cont. Slavery – most of the slavery was in the southern colonies. Most slaves worked on plantations (large farms) Plantations were located on the banks of rivers – made great transportation for their crops
