7 Musculoskeletal Injuries (MSI)
What is that? Definition - when a worker performs the same task over and over, causing stress on nerves, muscles, tendons, or other body parts Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

8 Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
What is that? Definition - when a nerve in the wrist is used over and over with the wrong equipment How is it often caused? Long hours of keying at a computer workstation that is not properly adjusted to the worker’s height.

Computer Hardware Your Monitor Your Keyboard Your Mouse

10 The Monitor Top of the screen should be at eye level
Tilt your monitor slightly upward Should be 45cm to 60cm from your face Should be cleaned often.

11 The Keyboard Should be kept at elbow height
Fingers should land on ‘home row’ at a 90 deg angle Keep your shoulders relaxed, and your elbows at your side. Don't use your wrist rests or armrests while typing—only while resting

12 The Mouse Keep your mouse close to your keyboard
Use your elbow-not your wrist-to move the mouse Keep your wrists in a straight or “neutral” position Use a light grip

13 Furniture Your Chair Your Desk

14 The Chair Height - your thighs should roughly parallel to the floor
Recline slightly Sit back in the chair Move around!

15 The Desk Have enough room around you Have enough room under the desk
Edges of desk should be round and smooth Medium to light coloured surface to reduce glare

16 Work Environment Temperature Air Quality Cleanliness Lighting

17 Environment Temperature between 15C and 22C
Plenty of air circulation - but not drafty! Keep it clean - molds, dust, allergies etc.

18 Lighting Background lighting should be low or glare free
Use blinds or drapes to control the light from windows Your light level should be suitable for your task
