1 VALUES

2 What are Values? Anything in life that is important to us.
Qualities, characteristics, or ideas about which we feel strongly. They determine how we live and how we tell the difference between right and wrong.

3 VALUES… They affect our decisions, goals & behavior.
Values define what is of worth, what is beneficial, and what is harmful Values are standards to guide your action, judgments, and attitudes Values are personal

4 Two types of Values Tangible: Material things in our life
Things that cost money to obtain. Ex. Jewelry, cars, clothes, etc. Intangible: Non-material things in our life They don’t cost money. Ex. Love, honesty, kindness, etc.

5 Where do we get values? Values come from our homes, school, society, friends, TV, church, music, books, families, culture, etc. Different people and things influence you at different ages: Ages 1-7: Parents Ages 8-13: Teachers, Heroes Ages 14-20: Peers Ages 21+: Your values are established, but you may test your values from time to time.

6 If you remain in touch with your values, you will achieve your goals
If you remain in touch with your values, you will achieve your goals. Base everyday choices on your values and goals. Don’t climb a ladder that’s leaning against the wrong wall.

7 What are goals? Plans you make to help you reach or accomplish something in the future TWO TYPES: Short-Term Goals: accomplished quickly, usually within 1-3 days EX. Doing dishes, finishing a paper, etc. Long-Term Goals: take longer to accomplish, possibly within months or even years EX. Graduating from High school, getting a job, etc. Achieving your short-term goals will help you reach your long-term goals.
