Being Healthy Good health involves every part of your life
Health – combination of Physical, Mental/Emotional, and Social Well being Mental/Emotional – deals with your emotions such as, joy, fear, love

Physical Health Maintaining physical health involves taking care of your body Eat well balanced meals Stay fit through regular exercise Get at least eight hours sleep Keep body, teeth and hair clean Have regular medical and dental checkups Avoid tobacco, alcohol and drugs

Mental/Emotional Health
Maintaining mental and emotional health means taking care of your mind Face problems with a positive and realistic attitude Set priorities, so you won’t be overwhelmed with responsibilities See mistakes as opportunity to learn, grow and change

Recognize weak areas and try to improve them Develop effective decision-making skills Use your talents effectively Accept responsibility for your actions Stand up for your beliefs and values Remain open to learning new information

Social Health Taking care of the way you get along with other people
Have a friendly, open attitude toward other people Learn to communicate effectively Be loyal and truthful Honor others’ feelings Learn to disagree w/o arguing Respect others’ property

Staying in Balance You must give attention to all three sides of the health triangle to maintain total health SEE OVERHEAD (HEALTH TRIANGLE)

What is Wellness An overall state of well-being involving regular behaviors that have a positive result over time Health is like a picture – How you are doing physically , mentally/emotionally and socially at a particular moment

What is Wellness Wellness is like a film that shows how these aspects of health interact over a period of time The choices about health that you make every moment become part of your long-term level of wellness

What does it mean to have a high level of wellness
The decisions you make now can help you maintain or achieve that goal throughout your life
