Movement of people from the countryside into the city. Reason for Urbanization in the United States: Railroads: Hubs Cities like Chicago and Atlanta grew at an extremely rapid pace. People were attracted to the culture of city life. Rise of factories and increase in farming technology led to labor movement in the cities.

Overcrowding and Slums Tenements: low-cost rental housing barely meeting minimal living requirements. Lack of sanitation and pollution Traffic Congestion Vast Difference in Wealth

Political Corruption Political Machines: Organization that gets citizens to vote for its candidates on election day. Tammany Hall: Famous political machine located in New York City from ’s Boss Tweed: Most corrupt solicitation of his day Head of Tammany Hall Made a Fortune in Kick Backs Graft: Using government money for personal gain.
