1 Neolithic 3rd phase of Stone Ages

2 Review Paleolithic Era was first phase of Stone Ages. Hunter-gatherer society. Located in Europe and Asia continents. Mesolithic second phase of Stone Ages. Nomads- had to follow the animals they hunt. Neolithic third phase of Stone Ages. They are the farmers! Specifically began 8,000 BC in Middle East.

3 Bell Ringer September 12th: Use Textbook and composition book to define the following:
On page 41 Neolithic Era- On page 41 Domestication- On page 42 Agriculture- On page 42 Megaliths-

4 Migration continued… Neolithic are the first Farmers!
Neolithic Era started in Southwest Asia. Neolithic Era began toolmakers using metal to create; tools, jewelry, and weapons. Example the plow used for farming to help Neolithic farmers become more productive.

5 Agriculture Open textbook to page 42
Developed in different parts of the world at different times. As climate changes so does agriculture. Hunters form Stone Ages didn’t have to follow the wild herds anymore. Instead, farmers could keep sheep or goats for milk, food, and wool. Large animals in Neolithic Era were used for jobs on the farm.

6 In conclusion… One event led to the next event.
End of the Stone Age witnessed change from hunter gatherer to agriculture societies. One event led to the next event. Open textbook to page 42 This led to the rise of civilizations. One of societal changes that occurred at this time was people began to farm and live in permanent settlements.

7 Donald Johanson found Lucy an early hominid that lived 3 million years ago in East Africa.
Mary Leakey found of the earliest ancestors of humans in East Africa.

8 Prehistory – the time before there was writing Anthropology– the study of humans
Society– a community of people who share a common culture Hunter-Gathers– people who hunt animals and gather wild plants, seeds, fruits, and nuts to survive Distribute– to divide among a group of people

9 Hominid– an early ancestor of humans Ancestor– a relative who lived in the past
Scientist classify early humans as hominids Modern day humans are called “Homo sapiens” also known as “wise men” They appeared in Africa about 200,000 years ago

10 *Society*Hunter-gathers*Distribute
Hunters-gathers lived in small groups and during bad weather they were sheltered by caves. They sometimes had to move when water or food became scarce. Men usually traveled in herds to hunt. Women usually gathered fruits, wild plants, seeds, etc. and stayed close to home to take care of the children.

11 Bell Ringer September 11th, 2017 Paleolithic Language, Art, Religion
In composition book: Language = most important development Art = way to communicate and make hunting easier Religion = believe to have started due to artifacts and food being found in burial sites.

12 Chapter 2 Section 2 Early Human Migration

13 Ice Ages- a period of time of freezing weather Migrate- to move
Climate patterns— -Shaped the earth’s geography -caused Old Stone Age people to migrate -these freezing weather patterns = ice ages Land bridges = how stone age people crossed to other continents Each continent had people living there except Antarctica

14 Mesolithic Middle Stone ages
Basic Needs: Adapting to very cold climates= fire and sewing animal skins for clothing Shelter= caves-----pit houses (roofs of branches and trees) Advancements: Shelter= mammoth houses because wood was scarce in Central Asia smaller and more complex tools Hooks and fishing spears Canoes to travel on rivers Pottery
