A boy would start as a page (servant) at the age of 7 and live at the castle of his lord, who was usually a relative
During the first stage of their training, the boys would serve the ladies of the manor and were taught how to sing, dance, and play the harp

After 7 years as a page, a boy would then become a squire who would polish his lord’s weapons and equipment as well as tend to his horses and serve him food
A squire also received weapons training with swords, battle-axes, maces, and lances

In his early 20’s a squire could become a knight if he was deemed worthy and he was knighted in a special ceremony
Knights lived by the code of chivalry where you were loyal to the church and your lords, cared for the poor, and treated women with kindness

Knights wore a full suit of armor and usually rode on horseback on the fields on battle
Knights were the primary means of combat until the discovery of gunpowder hundreds of years later
